Default SO close! Campaign wont start

Hi all - I finally got it installed, sound, patched to 1.41. I can watch the intro, I can choose my faction but then nothing happens. It goes back to the choose a game screen. No crash right away. Then if I click campaign it does nothing, if I click custom game it crashes.

Any ideas? I'm like 5 hours into this install process and I'm so close!

I tried applying the menu fix, no luck. I have no other mods installed. I have vista and mtw2 gold, no steam. SHould I go back to version 1.4 maybe? I never tried to see if that would work

You may need to add it into the registry. That was a huge fix for me.

In terms of campaign not starting, it needs to be installed in the exact order. Don't install anything extra (e.g., Crimson Tide Arrows).

    1. COW 1.4
    2. Install the sound files
    3. Install 1.4.1 patch (newest one). You can see if you have done everything correct here by installing the menu fix and then starting the game. If you see an English menu and can start a campaign, you are good to go. If problems occur after than, then you are doing something wrong in one of the following steps.
    4. Install the 1.4.1 English translation (the old version) into a dummy directory (make a directory, just not the default COW one). Unzip the newest English translation and copy it into the previous directory (it should overwrite any files it modifies). Dunno why but this worked for me. When I install only the newest 1.4.1 English translation patch it did not work.
    5. Copy the English translation directory (your directory/data) into the COW/data file so that it will overwrite all the needed files.
    6. Don't install anything else. See that it runs and that you can start a campaign.
    7. Make a copy of the entire COW directory (about 9 gigs) and put it into a separate directory. Now you can mod your EDU or add music mod, etc., but have a backup. No more complicated install process.
    I hope this helps.

boatie - you are correct! I used red dwarfs video and your comment and realized it was because I did the translation then I patched. This leads to the problem I had. I guess I had so many issues with the install I missed the simple order. I can play now! Sweet!

99% of the time its the user not following steps. Glad you got it to work
