Default New to 3D Modeling, need some guidance

Hello everyone. I am not sure if this be the right section so if needed, lock it.

I am new to the scene of modeling and my aim is the Unreal Engine 3. I would like to make a M4 rifle with an Acog sight. I have only gotten as far as setting up a reference picture but after that I am clueless. To be honest, I am not sure what the best program is. So please, can I get a step by step or some tips for this project?

Yep, on D-Day in Iraq, we launched over 500,000 pikemen to capture the flag which Rome was holding. Didn't go so well for us but those Spartans didn't win by much with there muskets.

The best software depends on what you can afford. If you have $4000 (or so) to spend get 3ds Max or if you don't want to spend money download Blender.

Off topic: It doesn't matter that you're aiming for UE3. The engine really only matters for the programmer(s) and level designer(s) for example UE3 has crappy lighting, so a game like Amnesia wouldn't be able to run on UE3(to much draw calls).

Imo there is no "best" software, it's very much personal preference.

And also, if you've never modelled anything before, maybe you should do a few beginner tutorial's first on easier things, THEN make a detailed M4.

I'd advise that you fool around with Wings3D and/or Blender, before investing money in a program. Wings3D is easier to learn, but Blender is more powerful.
