    Default Villa Corvenii

OOClease clean all the posts from previous YATS! So all posts except BLIP's!

Villa Corvenii is an old mansion, but it is still in a good shape. Flavius has a lot of work, and therefore the villa may be a bit messy to the eye. His dining room is in the centre of the villa, and it is cleaned every day.

The mansion itself is a circular-shaped stone building with a lot of windows and a garden just after the gate. This way the visitors always have the pleasure to enjoy the garden before coming in to enjoy the food and wine.

    Age: 30

Flavius seeks personal success, but he wants the republic to achieve it with him. Flavius is an emotional person, and he holds honour as a trait every man should have. He is very loyal and trustworthy.

Family: Flavius had a father, a former senator. His father faced a crushing defeat in his political career, and fell to self-pity, and began to drink more and more. His father literally collapsed and lived only by Flavius's generous help. When his father turned 54, he was found dead in his bed. The doctors confirmed that he was poisoned. Nobody knows did Flavius order this murder, or was it perhaps someone else with a personal vendetta against his father..

Servants: Flavius has no slaves. He has many servants, the most worthy being an experienced, retired centurio Quintus. It is unclear why he has no slaves, perhaps he wants to raise his popularity amongst the plebeians...

    Background:

Flavius was born in a wealthy Patrician family, his father was a senator and his mother was young and beautiful. Flavius grew spoiled, and he was satisfied with his life. One could say that he was lucky to be born in such a loving family. Yet it was too good to be true..

    Around Flavius's thirteenth birthday...

Flavius's father crashed in the house, seemingly enraged.

"I have been deceived! That cunnus!"

Flavius and his mother, Aelia, turned to Titus confused, and a little bit amused.

Finally Titus notices the two, and turns towards them, with an odd look in his face. They stared at each other for about ten seconds, and then Aelia said warmly:

    "
Flavius, could you go to your own room?" Flavius stood, and left. His mother watched him, and when he was out of sight, he turned to his husband and said almost in tatters:
"How did the elections go?" She asked, although she knew the answer.

Titus looks to his wife, and his eyes were like tiny fireballs. Aelia looked nervous.

Titus's voice trembled when he answered:

"I...I lost. I spent all our money on the campaigning..yet that.. CANIUS FILIUS snatched the office from me!"

Titus's face was like a glowing piece of coal, and his eyes like tiny fireballs, but yet they were wet like he was crying.

Flavius heard his father's cussing, and he was a bit worried. His mother stayed calm, and told Titus to sit down and she'd take something to eat and drink. Titus sat, although he was still trembling of rage.

The next day everything seemed normal again, except that Flavius's father was not eating with the rest of the family. The next time they saw him he was lying on the street, muttering curses for the man who won the elections instead of him.

Titus spent most of the days drinking, and Flavius's mother died of old age when Flavius was 21. He had no money to hold burials, so Flavius had to cremate his mother's body.

Flavius had great sorrow for his mother, but for his father he had nothing but deep disgust. He disliked such crumblings, such sore losership his father demonstrated. He hoped he would not be such a sore loser.

Flavius had problems findind a suiting job for himself, because he was a patrician. He was spoiled in his childhood, and disliked physical work. He was signed many times for a short period, and he learned that with hard work you could achieve everything you want.

Flavius had gained a bit of reputation as a hard and loyal worker, and later he was contacted by a the Scipian family. He agreed to sign to them as a servant, and was almost instantly confirmed to be a hard worker. He wasn't exceptionally gifted on physical work, but he worked hard to compensate that. He was promoted once, and once again. By his 27th birthday he was Scipio's personal servant, and Flavius was becoming quite rich. After one year he decided to take a payoff from his job, and buy a nice house. Flavius bought a mansion near Rome, just by the river Tiber.

Flavius lived the next three years in Corfinium, satisfied and happy with his life. Once he came 30 he joined the senate, in order to achieve what his father did not...

OOC:I know this is not good but i tried to create some background for my character so there you go XD

Gaius Julius Septimus approached the villa, and was led into the atrium to wait.

Tell your master that Julius Septimus is here to speak with him..

A noise from the door was heard when Flavius came hastily in and his servants closed the door behind him.

Septimus! How good to see you here!

He nodded to the servant and sent him away to tidy up the other rooms

Excuse me for the mess, Septimus, i hope you enjoy your visit to Corvinium and my lowly house!

Flavius actually had two houses, the house of his father which he uses as his house when he visits Rome, and his Villa where he lived.. but he was ashamed of his father, and rarely visited the house in Rome.

So, i sent a message to you because i wanted to discuss of a matter. Please, sit down. Flavius nodded to the chair next to Septimus.

Now. From where to start? Flavius looked overly tired, no doubt from the political campaigns he has had.

It is Sextus. I think that there is something wrong with this man. I've saw him a few times in the streets; always with the strangers and foreigners. I cannot say anything at this point, but from what i know he has had a lot of 'deals' with the foreigners, also.

No need to apologize, my villa is also quite a mess...ransacked looking even.

now be frank senator...what is it that is the problem with dear old Sextus? Be precise. What dealings are you referring to, and what foreigners exactly? Remember also that i am no judge nor praetor, i cannot arrest this man, and i assure you the praetor wont without proper evidence. However, with that said, please go on. You have my curiosity...

Flavius was now coming to the more interesting part of the story..
When i saw him in the streets, he bought something from the foreigner. He got my attention, because i've never saw a foreigner. I think i heard something of a spaniard, so i think that the man was spanish..

But i see that here is almost noone to trust, but i trust you, Septimus, on this matter.. i must know your opinion of this. My mind cannot rest because of this matter, it has haunted me since i saw it.

Flavius now nodded towards Septimus, encouraging him to speak..

I would encourage you to not think of the matter so much. The man may plot an scheme, but he has no power, no influence in the senate. Gracchus had the people and was able to cause a riot. If he slips, if he turns out to be a traitor, the man will be executed. But until that time we have no way to harm him. Send a slave to follow him, speak with him personally. Keep an eye on him at all times if you do not trust him. The man sent me a letter earlier before my campaign....he is nothing to fear Flavius...

Septimus's expression become more serious, as he spoke

If the man has any allegiance to Carthage or those barbarians in Iberia...he shall watch as my legions burn their towns to the ground, before he himself is tortured, crucified, and then i myself shall push any traitor on his cross off the Tarpeian Rock when all is finished...

Septimus expressed a great deal of anger and cruelty in his voice...perhaps a side that the man rarely expresses in public...or perhaps just how deeply he takes his devotion to Rome..

You are right. He has no power and no influence, as you said. I hope that he is a man of honour and that he honors the Roman law and Roman citizens.

Now when i'm the governor if Hispania, i must ask you a question as you know the terrain well. I've yet to travel to my destination and i'd like some advice of what troops should i train. I was thinking of light infantry and cavalry-composed army, perhaps, with lesser infantry component. I've heard rumours of the great hills in Iberia.

Make use of the locals, they know the terrain best. Also, many generals would disagree with me, but i stress the importance of archers and slingers. In fact, i wish to address the senate soon regarding the military makeup, and request a unit or two of Cretans to bring with the legions on campaign. By all means, you must hold Carthago Nova. Its walls are strong, and will help with the task. Alas, i cannot say much more, as the times are changing in Iberia. Rumors of the Gallaeci tribes expanding are abound, and Carthage may try and return. We simply do not know.

To sum it up...use the locals Corvenus...use them well, but do not trust them fully...

My plans have evolved to the stage where i may already use them. It is my best ability to control cavalry-light troops armies. Infantry is more likely a concentration point where i want the enemy to attack to. Perhaps i should replace some of my cohorts with cretans and regular iberian archers.
And OOC: i still have my RSII saying that it doesn't work. I try to fix it all time
