what do you really want from a total war game?

more realism? more units? more complex trade? diplomacy? larger maps? what time period? Where? Europe? Asia? etc etc etc. also what you think really hasn't work at all, maybe its the tech tree or the new character development in Shogun 2? just a general discussion about the game and its future.

Better Diplomacy so when my ally is being attacked I can tell the enemy nation to stop or else I'll intervent. It'll make alliances more better. Which is another thing, real alliances, friendships that will actually help and stop you from attacking nations. (You may be the powerhouse of your area, but what happens when 3-5 little nations team together?) Time period is already in multiple topics so I won't go there. What I'd really like is a extensive time period crossing many different periods of time such as the Post-Roman to the Middle Ages. As nations get older you can choose what to develop. For example, if I play as the Saxons and make it to the Middle Ages I wouldn't still use my old Saxon Hearth troops and other nordic warriors. I'd say, want to become more feudalistic and allow knights and the such to be recruited, replacing the old of course.

I would like as u said a better diplomatic system but i want a better every system, especially trade and infrastructure, i really like developing my faction but i hate micro management things like the merchants in Med2 were just really annoying. maybe some sort of panel where i can just assign a merchant to go and trade silk and then he goes and does it, none of this pesky turn by turn movement of him.

As for diplomatics i want other counties that dont have any support or any real power of there own to be more complaint and try to keep there nation alive so if im the powerhouse of my area and there is a small defenseless county on my borders and i want to vassal it, it wont necessarily try and fight an unwinable war against me.

Yeah as the leader of a faction you should be able to do what ever you damn well like including mixing up and modernizing your army. maybe a system where you can create 1 unit type as your 'Palace guard' but have the recruitment time and availability adjusted to the units power.

I dont think trade needs to go into too much detail its good enough as it is.

I definitely want more realism, they do a pretty mediocre job at that, and also as the first comment stated, better Diplomacy/alliances.

well yea a better ai would probably fill around 50% of most peoples problems. It would put an end to angry joes disappointment. Hes held empire and napoleon in good light when they first came out and after a few months he is disappointed with it because the ai is still broken

True the AI is a massive problem for the total war series but i think there is so much more that can be done with this formula that hasn't been explored. Maybe if CA released a kinda of creation engine similar to Little Big Plant so people could make the game as realistic as they wanted or turn it all around and make there own fantacy world. people love freedom to make things there own.

100,000 man battles and a better AI. RTW graphics would do me fine.

A smarter AI and a bit more campaign micromanagement although I could see it varying with the time period. I'd like to for example force peace between two nations or to co-ordinate armies and fleets with allies. Right now the most you can do with Total War is point and click and fight a few battles - I still love the series but I'd love to have more control over more things.
