Installing SS 6.4 over Steam's M2TW

Hi all. I haven't played SS for a while, and that on a friend's computer. I have M2TW Gold Edition (m2tw + kingdoms), bought from Steam. Excuse me for not discovering the page on how to install SS 6.4 over the Steam version of M2TW, but how is it done? I am currently installing SS 6.3 and 6.4 into the m2tw folder and am wondering, when I get done installing, will it run correctly or will I need to modify certain shortcuts just as I had to for RTW mods over Steam? Thank you.

Could you detail how you did it, currently I just copied the 6.4 stuff and moved it into the 6.3 folder and replaced everything that needed to be. So when I try to play it, it comes up with the launcher and I try to play it just it crashes. I did the thing where I renamed the SS folder to one of the kingdom campaign folders...

Don't do that. Install 6.3 and 6.4 using the installers. Then open up Steam's Kingdoms launcher app. Press play and choose SS from the drop down menu. The first time you click on that, it probably won't load and instead will give you an error message. Ignore this. Open the same Kingdoms launcher app again and press play >> SS again, and this time it will work. I don't know why it works the second time and not the first time, but the important thing is that this works.

I'm getting into the game but i can't start a new campaign it just pops back to the Screen where you choose to play battle or campaign

Nope. Came up with the exact same error, twice still would not start

This has happened to me before, but they were always corrupt installations.

Make sure you're launching using the Kingdoms launcher, not the SS launcher.

What is the error you folks are getting the first time?

I got the same error as Mamik. The first time I launch the game / switch between Late and Early campaigns, I get the standard "Medieval 2 has encountered a critical error and will exit". However, it succesfully launches the second time around.

i have done about 4 fresh installs now but i still get that error

FIGURED IT OUT: Take away the thing that is in the launch options of Kingdoms: the @mod/default/6.4.cfg thing.

I just did that and it worked out fine.

and yes, use the Kingdoms launcher to launch the game!

The launcher i gave last time should be working. Perhaps run it as administrator (it needs registry access and i dont have vista/7)
It will start the original kingdoms launcher, but will have a correct entry for SS. I've bundled it together with an .cfg.
And it works flawlessly for me and i have a steam kingdoms ver now.
All the other features that were normally not available under steam (like the BAI swapper) will also work normally now.

BTW, it will work for other mods too -> just be sure to change modName inside the .cfg to something else, or just delete the .cfg and let launcher create one.
