    Default (6.4)Unspecified problem... Can't start a campaign.

I try to start a new campaign as ANY faction, but as soon as I click the START button the ''Medieval 2 has encountered an unspecified problem'' message appears and it crashes to desktop. I tried that several times with random factions but always the same thing happens.
I don't even know if it is late or early campaign, because it sais late on the menu, but the starting date is 1100 in the description for each faction. Also, the faction positions on the map match 1100, so I guess it is early after all as I specified ''Early'' in the setup.
Medieval 2 Gold Edition is the edition of the game I have, legal copy, bought it a few years ago, patched it to 1.5 (Gold), restarted the computer after the Stainless Steel installation, put everything in the vanilla folders and done everything right. Also, Im running Windows 7. (Wait, is that the problem?)

Please help as soon as possible.

I take it you have Kingdoms installed (which is needed for this mod to work)

    any sub-mods?

    have you altered any files?

is UAC disabled or have you installed in another directory than program files(x86)?

    did it work with 6.3?

If I where you, I would've deleted SS folder and re-installed first 6.3 and then 6.4 over that... don't forget to start with the setup launcher..

It's got Kingdoms in it, so yes.

    2. No.

    3. No.

    4. Errrr... Its in the standard Program Files...

    5. Haven't tried it with 6.3

    6. I think that won't resolve the problem. Everyone sais ''Reinstall it'' and then I only lose my precious time and the problem stays.

    Anything else?

first of all, if you are using win7, the program files folder is named (x86) and you should never install games in that folder if you aim to mod them because of the UAC...

My first install with 6.4 didn't work, but after deleting the SS folder and reinstalling first 6.3 and directly after 6.4 it worked perfectly... I made sure that the folder wasn't write protected...

my tip is to delete the SS folder, right click on the medieval folder and choose Properties, then Security (I think is the english name for it... using Swedish myself, should be the middle one of the top tabs)... click Edit and then give permission to all users for all options... this way, anything you install or change in the M2TW folder will work gallantly (and without those annoying pop-ups which will ask your permission)...

now, when this is done, re-install the SS 6.3 and 6.4 and try again...

    LOL
After I turned off UAC, I kept crashing to desktop after the first screen (the knight swinging his sword).

What should I do now. xP

    What Newt said...

    1. Disable UAC and allow full access

    2. Delete SS

    3. Delete M2 from the Virtual Store

    4. Install 6.3

    5. Install 6.4

    6. Run the Setup and choose your campaign

    7. Start playing

    8. If it still messed up, then you might want to try reinstalling the entire M2TW folder again

You need to do it then install mods. Also go to C:\Users\yourname\AppData\Local\virtual store\sega\ and delete the M2 folder if there is one

edit: appdata is hidden, so see here

I am getting this too, as a steam user - is there any fix for this? I tried the temp folder but nothing was listed for SEGA or STEAM.

I also can't delete the virtual store folder as I don't have the sega folder that I can see. I have followed the rest of the instrutions though.

I had a problem like this where the campaign would not start in 6.4. What I didn't realize was the SS setup (in the programs menu) was still referring to the old 6.3 setup... I went into setup options and checked some of the new boxes and then the 6.4 campaign worked ok. :O) ...... It's a bit weird these options have to be taken outside of the game... hope this helps somebody
