Installation problems

Hello, thank you for reading this post.

I installed DLV 6.0
Patched to 6.2

Tried to run. The game flashed the loading screen and then immediately CTD. I looked at the log file and the last line says:

[script.err] [error] Script Error in mods/DLV_ext/data/descr_projectile.txt, at line 1981, column 1
Expected 'display'

I attempted installing BB8 and the 8.10 update, but then I got another error message about a missing player.txt in "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\medieval ii total war\mods\DLV_ext\preferences"

I removed all the DLV folders entirely, installed only 6.0, and still got the descr_projectile.txt error.

Any ideas?

Oh, and line 1981 of the descr_projectile.txt file is:

Hiya Ulm, BB's first post tells you what to do if you have Windows 7 or Vista. Not following those instructions is probably what brought you to this problem.

Install notes for Vista and Windows 7:
1) It is recommended to avoid installing m2tw to a protected folder like 'program files' (Use 'c:\m2' or something like that).
2) Also recommended to disable UAC while installing (->M2TW->DLV->BB), and while playing.
3) And before installing BB make sure you have modify rights to the mods\DLV_ext folder.

Just reinstall everything, according to the instructions, it should fix it.

I appreciate your response Taiji.

I had read over the post you mentioned, however, because I have the game through steam I am unable to specify installation directory. (Maybe there is a way to do this that I do not know of?)

I do, however, have UAC turned off and I have full priviledges with the steam folder and all sub folders.

You think my descr_projectiles.txt is somehow corrupted because of access priviledges?

Steam has updated Kingdoms, so I assumed I have 1.5. A version mismatch is the only thing I can think of. (I.e. the format of the descr file, or the values in it, are not read properly)

Can you send me your local copy of descr_projectiles.txt and players.txt (players.txt is from the preferences folder).

Can you recommend any other work arounds?

You can install steam outside 'program files', steam apps are usually stored in steams folders unless you specify otherwise.

Rename your 'crusades' modfolder to 'crusadesbackup', then rename your 'DLV_ext' modfolder to 'crusades'.

Then use steam to launch DLV using the crusades option.

Steam requires even more messing about

Many many many thanks, this was the way to resolve the problem. Now my wife is going to kill me.

Try to make your wife understand that you are the leader of a nation now... Ok, maybe not... Maybe buy her something nice, cook her something, give her a child... You get the idea, she can probably handle the other woman (DLV) if she knows she is number one
