    Default British Isles Darkage Campaign Submod SV3.3

    I have scripted a lightweight SV3.3 submod for the British Isles. I'm aware that 4.0 is due sometime soon and i will hopefully be able to update any scripts when its available.

    This submod uses the full SV campaign map and will not alter game experience for any other factions

    The main purpose of this submod was to represent more historical accuracy in the British Isles during the dark age period. I also wanted to create a more competitive and interesting game when playing the factions England, Denmark and Scotland. The mod will also make these factions more dynamic and is a worthwhile update if you play as any other faction.

    No other factions or regions have been modified but the province of Koumbi has been sacrificed to create one of the two new provinces, Galway/Connaught is also gone. The two new provinces are 'Innse Gall' or the island province of Hebrides, Orkney and Mann (settlement is Stornoway) The other province is 'Bernicia' NE England (settlement is Berwick)

    Denmark now has Edinburgh and more Norse influence is reflected throughout Ireland and Scotland.

    -new characters have been added
    -some provinces, settlements and unit names have been changed
    -rebel armies have been added
    -relations have been modified, Denmark is now at war with Scotland and England
    -garrisons have been amended
    -win conditions updated
    -land bridge between Scotland and Ireland has been removed
    -a fort has been added

    ..and some other small changes.

    Very cool. You can keep players busy while they wait for 4.0

    Have you thought of making a sub-mod based on the Britannia map?

    It should keep people busy. It is pretty tough at the start and players will need to be patient, build an economy before setting off on invasions. I hope the first 20-30 turns don't put people off.

    Have you thought of making a sub-mod based on the Britannia map?
    The thought did cross my mind, its been so long since I have played Britannia. I do however enjoy the involvement of all the other factions in the full campaign. I'm more interested in updating these files for other eras which I think would not be so much work.

    I am still unhappy with many of the models for the Scottish and Celtic units, they look silly when compared to other armies. I had some joy re-skinning some of these but I found editing the battle_models.modeldb file very frustrating and I had little success. I think I would rather wait until after 4.0 before embarking on anymore scripti editing. It will also give me some time to playtest this sub-mod more fully.

    Will the Highlander models be re-skinned in 4.0? (plz, plz, plz,)

    If isn't yet down by SV, we could simply take the excellent Vlad's scottish textures...I imagine that you know already this little pack, Sputnik??
    Its free to use, just a big credit for his proper work.
    Just one or two textures to rework a little, for the mercs(Eire's nobles, beefeeters or something, with the big sword, not the english tardive Beefs.) Them that osprey had many ways represented with beige wears.

    I haven't touched them yet, but we can try to get to it before the release.

    Yes, for the Gaels/Highlanders these textures would be much better.

    Sputnik and SV, them of Vlad are very serious, faded textures...detailed small round shields. The rebels/slave texture is the better, I had this in my self mod. If the result isn't bad(question of texture assignation).
    I will release a new unit of galloglaich for the Medium Era, I could easily choose one of the excellent claymore of Lord Claidor. And assign this on the classic claymore texture.
    Like that, you will have some ideas about the quality of his great swords^^
    plus Vlad had integred some medium axes(look beard axes, for the sea) very interesting in his scot reskin.
    Well actually I shearch, but there are more than 15 big swords ...

    I have the Galloglaich in this dark age mod as Gall-Ghàidheil, its the Gaelic name for Norse Gaels and could be seen as the ancestors of the Galloglaich.

    It would be great to see you release a new Galloglaich unit. Ive been very impressed by your work.

    You should also include Denmark in the map, mate. Its always weird to me when factions have provinces they've taken over, but not their original homeland.

    I have been updating the campaign_script to make the Saxon and Scottish faction AI more aggressive at the start of the campaign.. so far so good

    exactly, I 'm not expert about the celtic warfare, but they look great , and just fine, for me^^
    I use them, we could have a true scottish style with them of SV....

    what is your point of view about this pack??? mongols are updated, we will use only the Rusichi's Altaic guys, for cumans/petchenegs/khazars/and mongols.

    The models/textures are much better and the attachments are great too. I particularly like the Scots pike militia and this model is more like how a Scottish army would look. The plate armour texture is excellent too.

    There is a couple of issues however. The armies should not have blue paint on their faces, this a complete myth and fabricated for Hollywood films. I noticed that the Irish Kern faces have no blue paint, you could use these faces instead? I also noticed that half the faces split down the middle are shaded, I don't know why this is.

    The Irish merc Galloglaich models are great but they should not have red textured clothing. Indeed non of the Irish/Highland models should wear red, it should be green or brown.

    Apart from that I think yes, they would be great to use with the suggested alterations.

    Speaking of the Galloglaich, I have a question: is Scotland able to recruit them?

    SV or me could fix that, isn't a big deal^^, I have too this problem, When I fix that(models become beautifull, totally "roundy") I lost the texture assignation: consequence of this, you have only one kind of leg, one kind of head...I try to get very roundy models with all the variations stuff(I have some models with different 5/6 legs !!!)

    "should be green or brown", I agree too, like the rebels/mercs ? But we could easily give three tartan set: scots, mercs/irishs, slaves...
    That could be quite honnest by this way...

    Well, my dear Sputnik, I had see too Braveheart, a lot of ways, just he is the lone hollywoodian film about Scotia(no?), and after I had read one "Histoire de l'Ecosse" by Michel Duchein.
    So as all everyone _save Gibson_ agree: no more guede on face.
