Default G.W.Bush wants to know what your searching for

I use Google all the time, and I don't like the idea of politicians recording what I've been searching for.
Well, I guess the Bush administation disagrees with me.

Feds seek Google records in porn probe

SAN JOSE, California (AP) -- The Bush administration, seeking to revive an online pornography law struck down by the U.S. Supreme Court, has subpoenaed Google Inc. for details on what its users have been looking for through its popular search engine.

Google has refused to comply with the subpoena, issued last year, for a broad range of material from its databases, including a request for 1 million random Web addresses and records of all Google searches from any one-week period, lawyers for the U.S. Justice Department said in papers filed Wednesday in federal court in San Jose.

Yeah, I watch porn, I admit it..but what is it to you?
In time I might have to move to Iran to get more freedom and privacy.

Privacy groups say any sample could reveal the identities of Google users indirectly. And they say the demand is a worrying precedent, because the government also wants to make more use of internet data for fighting crime and terrorism.

However, the Department of Justice has said that several of Google's main competitors have already complied.
Google was asked for information on the types of query submitted over a week, and the websites included in its index.

I hope google fight this one off.

You have a certain mentality, a "you vs them" and i know it is hard to see, but it is only your imagination which makes up enemies everywhere. I haven't professed anything but being neutral so why Do you feel the need to defend yourself from me?. Truly What are you defending? when there is nobody attacking?

The article seems to indicate the searches within the US so how would you be impacted anyway as Google (and most search engines) are generally broken up across regions of the world thanks to some countries paranoia that someone might search for the word freedom or civil rights (cough China). The rather broad request seems to be an attempt to revive the issue of 1998 law that was struck down since the information they requested is entirely too broad to be of any specific use. Its nonsense and no doubt will be blocked by the courts again, the amusing thing about this to me is that Google is taking the moral high ground on this issue considering how much Google, Yahoo etc ***** themselves out to the Chinese goverment.

I must admit I have no idea how this works.
I do get my results from Google.nl, but I have no idea where my querry is processed.

The article talks about "Google users", I'm not sure if they only ment Google users in the US or all google users, and I have no idea if they can even make this distinction.

If Bush limits his spying to US citizens I don't have a problem with that: you choose him to babysit on you so it's your choice.

Oh...well, its not THAT bad...I always search for porn with Yahoo anyway, not Google.. :sweatingb

But that is BULLCRAP, this is what I mean when I say christian ethics is causing EXTREMISM in our government. This is born out of christian values so I blame christians for it, its their idea that the whole sex thing is "dirty". If our government didnt concentrate so damn much on "christian" morals we wouldnt see such ridiculous crap as this and the gay marriage thing, for example.

damn, Google has some balls though, it says there theyre resisting?

    They do sound brave.
But if they complied they would probably loose a big part of their customers.
I wonder how much effect this story is going to have at the stock market.

Well google does localization for various countries and also appear to block searches/filtering in specific countries at goverments 'request' so it makes sense that search processing is probably broken up into continent or region. Since article doesnt mention the rest of the world and just mentions America its logical to conclude that its limited to US or "North America" searches depending how Google operates. As always you toss in your little pointless digs, first Iran and now the babysitting thing. Cant you just post a single message without getting into this idiotic childish crap?

Yeah I wanna see what Rush has to say about this, yesterday he was defending religion in the U.S. government from my criticism...This helps my argument tremendously because its undeniable proof that there IS christian exremism in the government and even though 80% of the U.S. population may be christian, the majority probably dont agree with this radical neo-christian resurgence within the top layers of our government.

Well...jews make a strong impact on media, but not so much on government...especially nowadays.

edit-but media has been called "the 4th branch of government" before so...whatever make of that what you will. Jews also monopolize the the lawyer and jewelery salesman occupations

oh yeah, dont forget bankers! They also all have noses shaped like the number 6.

this is completely idiotic. If you search on google, or any other engine, you can see the "top search results" for anything just by looking for it. This really shows how completely inept and idiotic the government is. I stumble on these things on ACCIDENT.

Also porn is HARDLY in the top. Its mostly celebrities, tv shows, and entertainment related things that people search for. Porn is usually not in the top of the list.

This is idiotic, pointless, and a complete waste of time for the government to be pursueing.

If goverment was truly interested in porn and children/porn they would focus on p2p networks instead. There was an article last year by Michelle Malkin (conserative writer) about p2p networks and child porn and the results were disgusting. There was a screenshot of search results of various 'kiddie porn' keywords that would turn your stomach. That would seem well worth investigating not this crap.

As opposed to an Athiest president who would undoubtably introduce athiest extremism.

Show me some numbers on those christians who disagree with "radical" christian resurgence.

and why "neo" christian? It's not new, I guess you just like to add the "neo" in front of words you don't like to make yourself feel like you've accomplished some type of "dig" on something.

Well, since they are asking google to hand over its records.

it would be setting disturbing precedent if allowed

hmmm, why dont i like the look of that.
If they could truly get the most common search criteria from googles own pages.

    then why do they want

If anyone was readin what I've searched for I would be a terror suspect.
here are some of my keywords from the google search bar:

    How make potatoe gun, flashbang
    m4a1, sniper rifle, smoke bomb
    colt, knife, how make bomb
    awp, whitehouse
    smg, george bush
    hand grenade, parody
    bomb, shooting range
rpg, osama bin laden, greek armour
    how make rpg , flag
    rocket, bow, how make catapult
model; rocket, how make silencer (I meant a nerfgun silencer)
    model rocket launcher, sword, armour
america online (only terrorists use that)
    twcenter, msn.com

    And much more.
I sound like I want to be rambo and blow up the Whitehouse with G.Bush inside. Really I was looking for models for my from-scratch model rifles I like to make. I can show you a picture of it some day. The two I've finished look like a automatic machine-pistol and a sniper with a 10 bullet clip (bullets are made of rubber shaved to look like bullets).

Luckily in Canada there are no remote control drones launching missiles at me, because if the CIA came to Canada illegally they could be sued and most people working there could get fired. Although they did fly a spy plane into the prairies illegally. It supposedly landed in Canada, but at least it didn't go within 100 miles of a city. Supposedly. You can't trust the CIA or the farmers who saw it. Maybe they just wanted attention.
