Medieval 2 total war online bought from steam?

Hi, I just bought Medieval 2 TW to my little brother as his birthday present.

Now the problem is that we want to play against eachother over multiplayer however when he enters his player name and mail for steam along with his steam password where the password is required it says "invalid"

So could someone please inform me what exactly he sould write since he bought it from steam?

Is it the mail he used for steam? or the steam account?
is it the mail password or steam account password?

You each need your own copy and each your own account.

What their rules are for multiplayer, contact Steam. They have a FAQ section in their support section.
