How do I spend my 10k?

Looking for a some help for a beginner. Unit choice is a little overwhelming.

How do I go about spending 10K? I want to try to win with a cwb army that a beginner can use.

Should I make sure I get 6 cavalry units first, then 6 archers, then infantry?

Should I avoid the general on the horse?

What about upgrades. I usually take infantry with 0 exp upgrades and 0 weapon upgrades and 0 armor upgrades. Is this bad? I upgrade the exp on the general on the horse that maybe I shouldn't be taking.

Can someone suggest two simple 10k CWB armies, maybe for Macedonia and Parthia, and why you picked what you did?

I dont play 10K, normal money is 15K, so i can only give advice, not an army.

It depends, you usually want 6 archers, mabe 8 depending on which faction you are or who you are fighting. Also, you need to make sure you have enough infantry, also depending on who you are and who you are fighting. These are things you will generaly learn with experiance.

unless your army is completly gold att and gold def dont get exp upgrades. Also, with 10k by the time you pick a decent army then you will be able to get few upgrades.

if your a beginer then parthia is probably a bad choice since you will need good skirmishing and micro managment skills. macedonia is a generic faction in terms of choice but if you learn them it will help you with all the other hoplite/pike factions.

I advice not playing 10k. The money is too low to be suited to cwb, as cwb barely affects your unit choices, and at that money army selction has too much of f actor in determining who wins. If you are a beginner who want to improve, I suggest playing more games, and more games with better players.

Play 15k, most people play that, at least the clannies do.

Nothing wrong with putting a general on your horse, i tend to use that unit for flanking in the cav fight. Ie minimize the risk of him getting ed.

At 10k, you want cav and archer spam, at that level inf aren't that important, espcially at cwb. Generally cav and archers are more useful than inf at 15k to. Of course i wouldn't advise going for 6 g/g praes, 2 g/g legion cav and archers fighting greece as rome. I find using cav, any cav, to beat a faction with superior pikes generally detestable :p

Doesn't affect your choices as in, if you decide to go for g/g units. The chances are is that max 6 same will barely affect you and in any case 10k can be very skirmishy. So what if they spam units? Your units are more cost efficient.

Thanks for all the advice! Especially Empr Guy.

I am still quite new, have had the game only a week, and haven't even finished a campaign. I am doing battles and am getting better, at least now I know when my guys are out of ammo, or getting shot at, or running away. There's alot of stuff to know!

The thing is, for right now, I don't even look at who my opponents are, or even who my ally is. I mostly host my own 2 x 2 games and I say beginner cwb 10k. I look to my right at setup and that's how I know who my ally is, or #1 on the Text list.

I know I should pay attention to who my opponent is, but for now, I'm still not that good yet, so if you can recommend generic stuff that would be great. In a perfect world I could get a generic, 10k solid starter army, and save it for a preset, and use it alot until I learn how to coordinate. I am finding I am moving just 1/3 of my army now and 2/3 just stands around.

Also, I like Thrace, but I always lose. Are they so terrible there's no hope? Or is it operator error? I've only ever won as Parthia with 8 cavalry.

Again, I almost always do 2 x 2 and host the games. If you think I should up to 15k instead of 10k, I will, but my thought right now is the less units I have to deal with the better.

Dont worry about losing. Just keep going. I don't suggest using Parthia, all beginners have big trouble with them. I'd suggest using more infantry-biased factions like romans. Seleucids are also good for beginners.

Just get everything g/g, and remember, pick your armies so you wont waste any denarii - for example, if you have 15k, and still 100 denarii left, use it on a peasant unit. It can act as cannonfodder agaisnt the enemy missiles.

umm yeah - while he was already breaking cwb with his 7 catas it would have
been more fun when he has brought more of 'em instead of wasting his
pikes watching the slaughterfest just to flee home without even contact.

Cataphracts are quite useless inside a forest... Would have been more interesting to see that on Grassy Flatlands.

Yeh just keep at it mate... It will click.... save your replays and you can look back and work out what went well and what didn't. Also you can take a look at the make up of the armys that you come up against.

Hmm... people don't normally archer spam in "10k CWB," rather I see plenty of balanced armies (3-6 archers is common). Even my 10k dedicated Scythia has 7 archers. I usually bring 5-7 just so I don't have to worry about missiles. Those I see with pure skirmish armies (6-8 archers) are the few experienced clanless or clannies joining, trying to stretch their budget with a missile spam because they can't see a point in bringing anything else. Granted, many of the 10k'ers do not have a strong foundation in their upgrades, micro, tactics or overall strategy, but this doesn't mean you have to play a skirmish army to win. Since it's harder to skirmish in "large" (which is common for 10k) and infantry units are doubled making them far more resilient, I've found that a well executed-rush is actually quite effective.

You can still learn a lot playing 10k, but many more play 15k on both "normal" and "large" scales. Of rules more recognized, I'd consider TWPL over CWB more adequate in 10k, but I can't say I've recently had any problems fighting skirmish armies with balanced and weird selections.

I see.
Unless the opponent rushes, you micro horribly, catches your skirmishers with light cav and gets your catas into a locked position. A prime example is my battle against prince where i got decimated using parthia. And i was a beginner.
