Icon5 Is there a way to increase loyalty?

I've had back to back faction heirs go rebel on me and it seems like 2/3 of my generals are incredibly disloyal. It might have something to do with having pardoned a few generals - which is rather pointless because even after they're pardoned they can no longer govern a settlement without inciting riots, not to mention it causes your leader to have a lot less authority, therefore compounding the loyalty problem - but what's the best way to build loyalty?

Use them more often in battle. They can increase loyalty because they feel "useful". Give him the Privy seal on a general and give titles that increase loyalty.

This sounds like BGR issue. http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showt...06060&page=116

There is a limit on how many nobles you can keep loyal- not sure if this was intended or unfortunate side effect. Basically having them fight and win battles as a commander increases loyalty as do certain ancillaries. Disobeying leader, losing battles, going bankrupt, being left in a single region without a battle for too long, lots of things can decrease loyalty.

I'm sure it is...I don't even mind having half of my generals sitting outside cities - as ridiuclous as that sounds - as much as I mind when it happens to my faction heirs...my kings had 1 son each for back to back generations and when I was finally able to marry a fertile princess there were 4 boys...I was excited because I thought the family would expand except these guys keep betraying me...granted, it was fun when the faction heir and his cousin rebelled AND took control of Alexandria, but it was rather annoying when the 2nd-born prince also betrayed me near Ragussa. That's lame if it is a bug, I'll check out the BGR thread, unless someone knows of a fix...is it basically first come, first serve?

The only general that gains loyalty is the one in command. The other generals fighting can gain some traits or ancillaries but most likely to be battle oriented only. What I usually do is lead the army out with the loyal general and just before attack have him exit stack leaving the disloyal general in command and the loyal general come in as reinforcements.

The lower your zeal the more likely odds that princes will be disobedient. It seems the eldest is usually the most disloyal with younger princes being better. If the loyalty is 3 or more they can be saved but less than 3 when they are young its quite tough to rehabilitate them and they have to fight under a loyal general almost all the time. Putting them directly under their fathers supervision or off to a university sometimes allows them to gain loyalty but the best method is fighting battles. However it can be a struggle to get a disloyal prince to become loyal. Unless they have fantastic traits or obviously in line for the throne I don't bother.

Thanks, that is really useful information. I always try to make the oldest son the heir, but considering what you just said (which I've also noticed during my playing experiences) it doesn't really make much sense...from now on I'll just try to pimp out the most worthy of my princes, regardless of age. The rest can govern cities but I won't plan on using them in battle. I know Richard the Lionheart turned his back on his father and I'm sure it has also happened quite a few times that I'm not aware of...and yet I've always felt like the oldest should rule, no matter what. I think that has been my problem...aside from never reading the BGR guide LOL

Damn, I was hoping there is a specific building or something...the thing is, if I send them out in a battle, there is a good chance they'll betray me before the next turn...if I put a 0 loyalty general in the same army as a general with a higher command will the low loyalty general gain loyalty by winning battles or will it only benefit the general who is actually in command?
