    Default problem with sallying

My city was under siege and and sallied forth and destroyed their battering ram then I took their ladders and brought them in the city. No casualties on my side. Then I brought all my troops in and exited the battle. It then said I lost 93 men and the enemy still has their siege weapons, wtf?

I've never tried this in m2tw but I used this tactic in rtw all the time and never had this happen.

maybe the battle wasn't over yet. so that means the battle ended with a stalemate or a draw

Haha, what an exploit. Obviously it was fixed in M2. If you exit the battle before it says you won, it's a loss.

eh? how is this an exploit, when it makes perfect sense. all you did was destroy their siege equipment, to delay their assault, and return to cowering behind the walls. how come 90 men died?

It's an exploit because a) in real life, 4 ladders wouldn't take a year to build and they would just rebuild the siege equipment, and b) the computer cannot do this.

Whenever you exit a battle, the computer makes it a loss. It probably just runs some random calculations to give you an arbitrary number of casualties. But you can imagine it as the two sides are literally locked in a stalemate with your side refusing to exit and the AI unable to enter. Something's gotta give or it will be an endless loop, so the computer calculates what would happen if your entire army exited at the same time.

You take 90 casualties and everyone on your side starts to retreat, thereby ending the battle (the computer always accepts the "End Battle" option).

That's not what really happens, but that's how I would imagine it.

It is an exploit because the enemy wouldn't just allow you to smash the stuff they built while they stood way back. The AI does so because it's stupid.

I don't think it's an exploit. My archers were shooting at the enemy so they left the siege equipment behind. I then ran out and destroyed and took within the cover of my archers

No, they leave the siege equipment behind and pull way back as soon as you press the Start Battle button in a sally. Try it.

If you sally, you are the attacker and you need to actually win the battle. Press F1 during the battle to see what you must do to win. I'm pretty sure it's going to say "destroy all enemy troops"
