preferences.txt
Been trying to look for a thread that describes/explains "preferences.txt" in detail:
Q1: which "preferences.txt" is active? there is a "preferences.txt" file in the "preferences" folder but some Mods add a "preferences.txt" into the "data" folder.
Q2: some of the preferences are self explanatory but how about (among others):
AA_QUALITY
GS_PIDS
SUPPLY
DISABLE_BACKGROUND_FMV
by the way I just discovered how to set some of the settings here (duh...) and I've never seen a "how to" or something pertaining to the "preferences.txt"
suggested settings to make the 3D battles more cinematic:
DISABLE_ARROW_MARKERS:TRUE (get rid of those stupid green arrows beneath ur currently selected units)
SHOW_BANNERS:FALSE (if u don't know where ur troops are, u are in big trouble anyway...)
UNIT_EXPERIENCE_UPGRADE_EFFECT:FALSE (Did u ever see ur units w/ that sparkle effect, YUCK!)
MINIMAL_UI:TRUE (u can still access ur unit cards, et al by F5, F6, F7)

thanks bestantreas, though it didnt answer what AA_QUALITY, GS_PIDS, or SUPPLY does, it goes a long way... also do u know which "preferences.txt" is active? when I installed a MOD's .exe it installed a "preferences.txt" in the bi folder... am now applying all my changes to both that one and the one inside the preferences folder. I believe that the :preferences.txt" in the RTW folder is only for RTW, though there seems to be another in a "preferences" folder attached to the the root (or has it been moved in there?)...

The preferences.txt that is created after you install a mod, will work only for the mod, as you said. The other will work for the vanilla RTW.
AA_QUALITY is for the Anti-Aliasing. You can change it to LOW,HIGH and VERY_HIGH. To work, you must have a supported video card.

thanks for the informative answers, bestantreas. so basically a "preferences.txt" in the root overrides the one in the "preferences" folder and if I uninstall the mod I'd have to remove that to revert back to "Default"? so if I want to set up global preferences (something that'll affect both unmodded and modded BI) I'd have to edit both "preferences.txt" files, then?
