    Default Buildings CTD - Solved

    I have been working at adding various buildings to a small mod I made for my own enjoyment. It seemed to go well, I fixed all errors reported in the logs and followed the tutorials as best I could.

    Unfortunately I get an inexplicable CTD with no errors reported in the logs. I am at a loss to what could be causing it, so if someone talented with text editing could download the mod and find out what is wrong, I would be eternally grateful.

    I do not want to scrap the buildings work I have done, but I may have no choice if no kind souls come forward to help as I really have no clue to what is wrong.

    Solution

    Text must be entered after } in the text/export_buildings file or it will cause a CDT.

    If you haven't added them to battle map then you error will lie in the export_buildings.txt so make sure everything is alright there.

    The CTD happens a few seconds after starting up the game, and seems the only thing changed since my previous working version is buildings proves that the buildings must be messed up. I have looked over the files several times Sihan and I can not find anything wrong with what I wrote.

    Sorry Gigantus I do not have any programs that can use that file.

    I have used checkEDB v1.2.4 and it confirms that my mod has no errors, I have looked over the text multiple times and I can not find any problems with it.

    What building files does Medieval II need to run? The core buildings and port, anything else? I removed some default buildings and that may be the problem.

    Underneath how a complete set of export_buildings entries looks like. It is for the tree name and one level. The file is a spreadsheet and you should be able to open it with Open Office.

    My buildings are not culture dependant but rather faction.

    v_barracks city requires factions { england, france, hre, poland, scotland, denmark, spain, sicily, venice, milan, }

    That said I did check if that was the problem a while back. I have a text/export_buildings file with the cultures middle_eastern and so on listed as pointed out above, it made no difference.

    CTD with no error, this is quite frustrating.

    That's irrelevant, if you didn't put anything after the brackets it will crash. Gigantus' example would work fine.

    Yes, what a relief, you got the problem, it starts up now!

    Thank you Taiji! Thank you everyone that chipped in to help.

    I could not see the obvious problem, not adding the text, I was so focused on everything be in order I did not consider leaving it temporarily blank would be the problem.

    Edit I - Still got to do more checking, but it looks fine at the moment.

    Edit II - I have a bunch of new errors now, but as they are listed in the log I should be able to get the mod running correctly once I fix everything listed, what a relief.

    This is how I traced an error like this:

    - Set your log to trace
    - Start the game
    - open the log and scroll up from the bottom until you come to an entry like this:
    13:29:47.950 [system.io] [info] exists: missing data/ui/northern_european/buildings/construction/#northern_european_NameOfBuilding.tga
    This will indicate the last building that got processed in the EDB.
    - Now look for the entry of the building in the EDB (NameOfBuilding), the building after it will be the one with a fault. Either in the EDB (which you ruled out with the checker) or in export_buildings.
    - Make sure the spelling within the parenthesis is correct, that you haven't used brackets instead of parenthesis and that is an entry to the right of the parenthesis.

    If you are still having problems to localize the problem, upload your log, EDB and export_buildings
