I always send my merchants to Venetia right away.

Small nations have an insane amount in their bank after a few decades. I think they are saving up for a fort or something.
Just ask for money in peace deals

There isn't a lot you can do in the beginning if you're small and your sliders are not trade-oriented, except choose National Bank for your first national idea which will allow you to mint more without taking as much punishment through inflation.

Okay quick question, I do have my merchants set on auto so they disperse to respected trade centers but it seems every 2 months I lose 20 ducats just randomly? Is there any detailed area you can look up where all this money is going?

the merchants take money to send, so if your getting new merchants every two months it could be them.

im not sure what you mean by possible, sending people on journies does take money.

and yes, although iirc it usually takes a bit more then 20 ducats, but it probably depends where you send them.

Keep in mind that if you have to send new merchants too often, you might end up barely breaking even — or even worse, spending more than you get out of it. You should look in your income and expenditure tab once in a while to see if your trade is profitable, and avoid sending merchants to centers of trade where they can't establish a solid foothold.

Keep in mind to not spend too much on army and navy maintenance during peace time. You can save alot of money by doing that, as that's your major source of expenditure. I would personally recommend 0.25-0.5 in maintenance for both, depending on how safe you are.
