    Default Serious Problem with laptop

ok so I bought a Asus G53JW like 2 months ago...and I was using it today...and I noticed that the charging wire seemed a bit sensitive before but I didn't think much of it. So i was using it tonight...and I unplugged it in order to move the laptop and when I tried to plug it back in it wouldn't go in, because the pin at the end of the AC adapter is now stuck in the hole....now before you guys say it is my fault, perhaps it is I don't know what exactly went wrong but I do not pull out wires like an animal. I pulled it out carefully from the moment I purchased it.

My question now is...how do I get it out? I heard super glue works...but I don't want to attempt it in case I screw up. So if I take it to a shop, like where I am at the moment there is a Canada Computers, where I also bought the laptop from, and will they pull it out for me? or will they just make me replace the motherboard or w/e?

If they do manage to pull it out, or I do....then I guess that is good news since all I will need to do is get the proper AC adapter and be even more careful the second time round.

This has never happened to me before, and frankly I didn't know that it could (I am a noob at laptops sorry my first one) so I am a bit lost as to what to do. I don't want to pay hundreds of dollars to replace the entire charger thing in the laptop.

what you can is to try to pull it out using some thin object, do this while the battery is OUT. If that dont work just take the notebook to a repair shop, they will try what I just said, and if they cant do that they will either, get a new charging plug or just order an entire mobo.

this is the first time that I heard of this problem...

Before you do anything else, contact the manufacturer and inquire if warranty covers this. If you start messing around, the wors case scenario is that you void all warranty.

higly unlikely, since it doesnt involve opening the laptop in any meaningful way, Asus laptops have one of the best warranties

I think I'll take it to a repair shop, I don't want to mess around with it and screw it up more. And yes, I know....I fail. I asked myself the same question as to how the hell something like this could happen, because I didn't even know it could. Next time I'll be wiser LOL.

I sincerely hope that they don't tell me that they must order an entirely new motherboard....as this probably will not be cheap. Thanks for the answers guys, hope some of you had a few chuckles

I'll report back once I visit the repair shop.

Wow alright. Well the store apparently said they cannot do anything (wtf?), so they called Asus and Asus said to send it to them (which will take forever, I am betting) and if it's a manufacturer error they will fix it for free (which haha...I doubt it is even though I never heard of a charging wire having the pin break off like this while IN the actual laptop) and if it isn't then I will have to pay them to fix it.

Why oh why did I buy a laptop? At least I have this PC for now.

Haha. I am trying to, it's just this was like a 2k laptop and it's 2 months old so it sucks. I checked around and I found two Asus authorized locations that can do the repairs for me, so at least it's local. That was a huge relief.

Report back here later guys and thank you. Oh and sorry for the double post D: thank you for the edit.

here is the deal, Asus has a 1 year global warranty + 2 years local warranty (country wise) + 1 year accidental damage

Thats why i said they have the best warranty out there, except for the alienwares, but you pay for Dell, in the case of asus its in the default price

So you dont have to pay anything to them.

Well I looked into the accidental damage warranty, and I have to sign up for it. Which I did and then they need me to send them a copy of the confirmation email and a copy of the receipt.

Aside from this I am also bringing the laptop over to Geek Squad that we have here in Canada and see wtf they tell me. Maybe this can be fixed without having to use that accidental damage warranty. Which will also be faster.

But thank you so much for the help, Mr MM.

This happened to my dad. We just took the entire thing apart, soldered a new thing in, then put it back together. We ended up with 5 extra screws but w/e. Good luck

Have you tried needle-nosed pliers? Are those small enough to fit in the adapter hole?

If it broke in normal use then it is covered by warranty. I used to handle this for HP, and I would suggest just going through the warranty procedure...might take some time, but it is a safe bet.

Well I am going to be sending it to an Asus repair site most likely. Report back later. Thank you everyone.

And I did try to get it out with pliers and it just wouldn't budge. I didn't want to try anymore because I may just end up making it worse.

A fair warning, the accidental damage warranty can be used only once, it was implemented last year, although a little draconian with its single use, its as good as it gets since its in the price already. You can buy extended warranty, which I do find it to be EXTREMELY WORTHWHILE, since you are probably going to keep the notebook for more than 1-2 years.

I read the warning on the site that it is limited to just one use. And I am hoping that nothing like this ever happens again, as I am usually as careful as can be with my electronics. Eitherway I will probably at minimum look into the extended warranty, since this is an expensive laptop.

I mailed all the stuff for the accidental damage warranty and it should take about 4 business days to get there. And I think this was right on time too as the site says you have to register for the warranty within 60 days of purchase and I bought this on November 30, 2010 ROFL so a little over a week left.

Alright well it's Monday, thus the business week has started. Hoping to get that email from ASUS soon saying they got my invoice etc and have registered my laptop for their accidental damage warranty.

EDIT: ASUS just sent me an email saying that I am now registered for the ASUS 360 Notebook Service Program and ASUS Accidental Damage Warranty Program. So yay now just to send it to them.

I know this is a double post, but I just want to let all the people that replied to my thread know that I got my laptop back from the Canadian RMA centre and I am typing on it as we speak. They had to replace the motherboard and I am not sure if it's a new one or a refurbished one...but everything so far works fine.

I am so happy to have it back and right on time too as Test Drive Unlimited 2 comes out in a week.

I read a lot of horror stories about ASUS RMA but it seems so far...that mine went fine and was speedy. Probably because I live 20 minutes away from the repair centre in Markham so that saved the shipping time.

    Thanks to everyone that replied.

So am I lmao. I was going insane without it because my regular PC doesn't have any of my files that I need and the PC is slow in general. But it was better than nothing.
