If Pakistan and India could settle for that, it would end a little bit of their squabbling. Would this work with cooperation between these to nations and the international community?

Problem is they can't. Pakistan and India can't come to terms. Whish they could, but they probably can't. Both states claim the entire province if I recall correctly and I cannot imagine either state giving up their claims, least of all Pakistan.
So what is the world to do? Deploy troops in an area disputed by two nuclear wielding countries? Wihtout the consent of Pakistan or India, or both, it would only ruin relations with these countries.
it isn't a "little bit of squabbling" though, it has been argued that their rivalry in Afghanistan is one of the motives behind Pakistan's support of the Taliban there
yeah well tbh I favour the status quo where India recognises Pakistan's control of Gilgit-Baltistan and Pakistan recognises India's control of Jammu and Kashmir.
The case of the First Gulf War isn't comparable
I think you're looking in the wrong direction, a war on Pakistan's western border is ongoing. The international community has to intervene before these petty skirmishes become a full scale war. I don't think now is the right time with coalition troops already overstretched, but someones gotta do it eventually.
well relations are pretty bad anyway lol

Imperialism won't allow it, especially considering it is almost exclusively socialists fighting for the independence of Kashmir.
Ahh yes of course, the oppressed socialists fighting against Imperialism
Only problem is that it is Pakistani and Indian imperialism if it can even be called that.
Is there much in the way of resources in Kashmir?
I am guessing there is which is why India and Pakistan are so keen to get/keep their hands on it? And if there isn't, I am not sure how Kashmir would function as an independent country.
Under the Patronage of Jom!
It is partially imperialism, but there is also a large bit of religious extremism and nationalism in the mix.
No, mostly it is about strategy and religion. There are religious sites in the region, but also it serves to give the occupier control of the Indus river.
I think the reason that both countries are so keen on having it is more political and historical. As far as I know, the majority of the population is Muslim, yet the Prince of Kashmir was Hindu and he wanted his state to join India. Which Pakistan was opposed to because of the Muslim majority in Kashmir.
According to Wikipedia, Kashmir's economy are focused on agriculture.
Its better that Kashmir is under Indian control, they are at least an decent country compared to the pakistans, and in a full front war India would crush them.
☻/ This is Muhammad.
/▌ Copy and paste him
/ \ so as to commit horrible blasphemy!
I'd support Kashmir joining Pakistan if it wasn't so unstable right now.
I support an independent Kashmir with a Pro-Pakistan government and no hindu's in control of the government. That way, we don't have to official absorb it, which would be nice, and we get a nice little ally to invade Delhi if India decides to move or Pakistan decides to recreate the Mughal Empire which I wouldn't mind to say the least.
Probably not many![]()
As someone from Delhi, I don't understand why you want to invade the city.By Kashmir I presume just the Kashmir valley? because Jammu and Ladakh wouldn't want to join Pakistan.
let the Kashmiris decide
