Default What is exactly Stainless Steel?

Hey there everybody, hope you're doing good!

I am here because I've tried looking around for concrete answers but really didn't find anything and I was hoping somebody could help me out!

I'm actually wondering what is exactly Stainless Steel? It sure seems to be quite popular, but I don't really have a general idea of what it adds/removes/modifies!

Thank you very much for your answers and wish you a wonderful day!

P.S. I am aware of the forum description, but it does not go into detail as to what has been modified or added, etc!

Welcome to the Stainless Steel Forums. This will get you started. Others can add in their two cents...

[Guide]Welcome to Stainless Steel: General Information
    http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=357303

Stainless Steel removes the Americas and extends the map to the east. Currently our sub-mod forum contains 100+ sub-mods which support the different versions of Stainless Steel. I Highly recommend you give it a try. It would also be best to choose the best version of Stainless Steel that suites your play style.

"If" you have focused interest in the east, Broken Crescent is also an excellent chioce...

Unfortunately, however, the Steam version of the installation guide seems to be nonexistent as per this page:

    http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=329561

Correct me if I am wrong, but if it is like with other Kingdom mods like Third Age, is the only thing that's required, is to have Stainless Steel under one of the faction folder names such as Teutonic, and start the mod from the "Teutonic" option when we are at the Launcher?

That's mostly right. Ireland's gone, Templars are too and Jerusalem is now called Crusader States.

    Also Timurids are back

Seriously? Sheesh....the Mongols already control 1/3 of the map...every settlement N and S of their starting point all the way to Nicea and Damascus...I've carved out a nice empire in Jerusalem - we're currently sitting 4th-5th in the power rankings, depending on the turn - but it's basically ONLY because I somehow managed to avoid war with them. I called a crusade on Adana when it was still under Turkish control but the next turn it was sacked by the Mongols...so while my crusade was technically on the Turks, every other Christian faction went to war with them the next turn and it hasn't mattered. Hungry and Sicily are both beasts - Sicily controls parts of Africa and Greece, like the old western Roman Empire, and Hungry controls almost half of Turkey, in addition to their own lands (I have a feeling Sicily will come out on top, if only because Hungry has to deal with the Mongols to the east and the Sicilians to the west) - but the Mongols are NOT slowing down. I think I'm gonna have to go to war with them sooner than later...TBH I am somewhat amazed they haven't already broken our trade alliance. And you're saying the Timurids are looming?!

Is it installed in program files? Vista or Win 7?

The solution is actually clear enough: Download SS 6.3!

Haha, the issue stems from a lack of base files, which prevent the game from starting and thus ends up in showing this error.

As a mere suggestion, I think that it would be much more clearer for the potential newcomers and oldies alike, if the indication of the older SS 6.3 being required in order to run SS6.4 was present and when I mean indication, I mean it being IN YOUR FACE, so that nobody can miss it.

Moreover, for Steam users, using this launcher is going to fix most problems you currently have with the game! Thanks to gracul obviously!

All it requires is reading ability. If you can't be bothered to read the first post of a mod, you shouldn't be modding your game.

    1st paragraph of release post:

Download the file called SS6.4.exe and run it.
The installer will guide you through the rest of the process.
Remember, 6.3 is required for this, and you must point the installer to the 6.3 folder!

While I agree that I have made a mistake not entirely reading the post, I think that this one of yours is more of a ego-feed post, but in the end, does not bring any help towards the initial problem. I do not see how calling me incompetent is really helpful.

I have seen some people experiencing the same problem, and I have provided a solution. The question is, did you?

Wow, Sicily just took Isparta and Hungary made the Turks their vassal...this is awesome...I've never seen such a strong Sicilian campaign by the AI...I might not attack the Mongols until they move more troops into Anatolia.

Is their attack path random? I lucked out when the Mongols didn't go south of Damascus...I doubt I'll be so fortunate with the Timurids.

Similar to Mongols, they goes to the South-West and North-West and eating everything in their way, have you knowledge on weaknesses of war Elephants? Here's a tip, use fire and gunpowder weapons to scare them.

They start at war with kwarezm and mongols, and are scripted to attack certain settlements.

I'm just echoing the thoughts of the mod leader. It's 90% a direct quote.

Then there was this right under the links for the 6.4 patch.

Download for SS6.3 (required for 6.4):
edit:and this right under the banner

    (REQUIRES 6.3 INSTALLATION! )
That's 3 spots that people are somehow missing.
