    Default Cavalry moving slow (bug)

There seems to be a problem where, seemingly randomly, player-owned cavalry wont move even at walking speed. They accept the order to go where you tell them; they even look like they're running... they're just doing it in slow motion.

Kinda disheartening watching your Druzhinas chased down by peasants.

Any ideas on what's causing this?

Cavalry slows down according to terrain and some mods and have really crapped it up.

    In vanilla, no mods.

Peasants, and other infantry, on the same terrain and traveling faster than the cavalry (i.e. chasing from behind, so following the same path).

    Maybe the cavalry was tired.
Or it would be the terrain. In some places, infantry actually move faster than cavalry simply because they´re more nimble in that terrain, and the horsemen have to take it easy to avoid accidents.
Of course, no accidents happen in the game (see how nicely it works?) but it does make sense.
In my experience, it mostly happen in really steep hills or narrow city streets.

Right outside fortress gates. Cavalry sallied out, rode around to the flanks (two units, both Druzhina, one headed for each flank). Enemy is all infantry, and are marching forwards, so my cav charge each flank and a good amount of the charge hits from behind so they have very little trouble separating in order to retreat and charge again. They get away, AI decides to chase them down, peasants charge on my cav (none of whom are locked in any kind of fight, all of them running from the hills... well, not hills, it's all flat ground, but you get the idea), a few seconds later peasants catch up to one of my cavalry units. My other unit, on the other flank, is moving the same slow speed but is left alone.

Basically, cavalry *shouldn't* be having trouble in these spots. But, they do seem to think they're running up a gigantic hill.

Yeah one reason could be stamina as point by Silverheart cavalry tire up quickly when charged around in the field so make sure that's not the case.
Other than that i have no clue and so it's bug maybe.

    Were these peasants AZTEC peasants?

Tried other factions because my Russian cavalry-heavy armies couldn't cope with it. Even as other factions, against anything I basically have to use even my general's bodyguard as if they're infantry.

    I'll either:
Use a smaller unit scale. I recently changed it to huge, it was fine at first but this problem has become increasingly bad since about that time.
Or, if that doesn't work, I'll re-install the game.

Aha, it could be the unit size that´s causing the bug.
Cavalry units always slow down if too many of their soldiers are spread out when they´re ordered to move to a certain spot - so that the others can catch up with the rest of the unit.
