So the SOB survived the eathquake...
No one will ever accept that truce, though if it held it could be a good thing. But i doubt that the recistance in Iraq would just quit when Osama gives the order.
He has done so before, not a big thing. To me I think the timing is more important since it appears to be a PR move, the tape could have been recorded within a rather wide time frame so its almost like oh attack on terrorst in Pakistan lets release this tape to show we are still here type of thing. Or it could just be random chance.
Im not sure quite what to think, we need some breathing space in Iraq, but it is bin laden, and I dont trust him

Update:
Just saw on the news.
CIA says, voice on tape is the voice of bin laden.
This should probably be moved to the mudpit

Did you listen to guys listen to Mclellan's press conference on CNN? How many times did he say "we've got them on the run?" or "we've got them under pressure"? "We are going to crush their evil idelogy"? God damn it I hate when politicians ****ing do that. Makes them seem so ****ing corrupt and idiotic. Anyways we can only hope their is some truth to what he says.
I think you better accept the cease-fire that offers bin laden, bush is an hypocrite and, with all respect, is fooling you people of the US.![]()

well its not really a war on terror anymore

that's quite exagerated...its not like the US declared total war. The only civilian casualties mostly from either the terrorists bombing them just because or the CIA got information that a high-ranking officer was somewhere and airstriked it.Originally Posted by Hyungoku

Yeah, I'm sure Bush and Co. are taking this truce offering and running with it. Apparently to them, it can only mean that he's "on the ropes" or "on the run." He couldn't possibly be trying to put on a show for Muslims to make him look like a statesman and therefore more credible to the non-Westerners of the world. To think that he's on the ropes is foolish. Even if he were, he's not going to reveal it. The man, horrible as he is, is not an idiot, he wouldnt have lived this long if he were. He has already offered several truces to Europe, and of course no one takes him seriously, but when they turned it down, London was attacked, so clearly, an offering of truce from Bin Laden doesn't mean he's on the run.
Was there autencity of the video's date? Until he starts making clear projections of the events going on, and not the vague nostradomus-esque comments of the past, and possibly even lacking any sort of revealing the date of this video, it feels like we could be getting spoon fed Osama videos on a regular basis to keep his name alive. I mean, Alexander chased after Darius III so doggedly so as to prevent others from claiming they were him and threatening his rule..it seems like it's a similiar case here. So long as Osama is alive, he remains the elusive mujahadeen warrior against the west in the eyes of those who would become insurgents or terrorists.
No no...thats not Bin Laden against the ropes.
This http://politicalhumor.about.com/gi/d...p%3Fid%3D34981 is Bin Laden against the ropes.
What makes you think he'll keep his word?I think you better accept the cease-fire that offers bin laden, bush is an hypocrite and, with all respect, is fooling you people of the US.
Or that it's smart to back down from the war on terror?
Or that the West will somehow benefit from said truce more than it will be damaged by it?
Remember, there are plenty of idiot conservatives, but just as many idiot liberals.

FYI for you guys, in the doctrine/teaching of Jihad in Wahabi Islam, truce with infidels is only approved by God when Mujahadeen need time to regroup and consolidate their forces in order to renew fighting, and even then once that period of time (however long it may be) is up the fighting begins anew. It could be that given the year of setbacks Al Qaeda has had (Lebanon, elections in Iraq and Afghanistan, Jordan, etc.), it could be that they need a bit of breathing room to egt themselves centered again.
Don't be so quick to assume that this means Bin Laden is "on the ropes". The last time he offered a truce, it was offered to Europe in early 2004. Many people thought this meant Al-Quaeda was desperate, but guess what happened after the truce was rejected? Bombings in Europe.

An alternative that would fit in nicely with Al Qaida's mainly symbolic war against the west would be to offer a truce to keep the "war on terror" going. It is, after all, the power base for them too. Once Bin Laden offers a truce, it only becomes harder for Western leaders to follow any course of action that could be interpreted as disengagement.
