Has anyone managed to form the Mongol Empire?

Been playing Magna Mundi as the Timurids and still haven't managed to keep the empire from splitting and thus making my only route to future glory the Mughal Empire. I've concluded it's impossible to do it starting as the Mongol Khanate itself (or w/e it's named in MEIOU etc). You just don''t have the resources to do it really. (I'd love to be proven wrong).

And to be honest even if I do manage to keep the Timurids together I'll just conquer India and the Middle East/Egypt anyway because they are just too tempting.

I'm not familiar with Magna Mundi, but in regular EU3 you can easily survive as the Timurids so long as you become a Despotic Monarchy early on. It is possible to achieve fairly early.

And I came close to forming the new Mongol Empire in a game of mine as the Timurids, but I was basically dominating everyone once the Mamluks, Turks and Ming were beaten, so I quit because it got too easy.

The closest I've ever come to doing this or anything like it was basically starting as the Golden Horde, changing my culture to Russian, and trying as hard as possible to form Russia. Which I did. So...Islamic Russia. I think that was Divide et Impera though.

I would, however, expect it to be absurdly difficult in Magna Mundi though :|

Sounds incredibly hard. I like taking a minor German faction and unifying the HRE with it. It makes me happy

I like taking a minor german (or italian) faction and making a world wide empire (like the bohemian empire in my game!)

Bohemia is hardly minor. My proudest accomplisment was unifying Germany as Bavaria...now THAT was a fun game.

Everybody does the "HRE from a singe-province Anhalt(or whatever)" but few people attempt the MOngol Khanate.

Anyyone else bothered about the Horde status thing from the latest HTTT or DW? I sort of find it hard to conquer states with no diplomacy whatsoever

It's very unpleasant to see mongols riding over whole Russia and messing thins in eastern Europe. New horde system is the worst feature of otherwise my favorite game.

They kind of ruined hordes, now they can't conquer any territory and have no diplomacy which is ridiculous to me. Especially when you get "diplo annex your vassle" as a mission but surprise! the vassle isn't a horde, so you can't. Hordes used to be a real threat in the early game and could overrun their neighbors before falling behind in tech and getting beaten back. If you were an eastern nation you always kept an eye out for them. Now they are just there to be conquered

In MEIOU there is an event "We are lord of the earth!" which fires and gives cores on bordering provinces when you're in the mongol tech group (timurids and a few others) by the time it stopped firing I had cores on all of anatolia + most of northern india. It's as close as I've gotten to any world conquest/mongol re-creation. It's even perhaps a bit bigger, as I've got most of india, but not russia

Pretty much no one tries to form the Khaganate because the Hordes are just Zerg monsters anymore, not real countries...the Mongol Khaganates were more economically, politically and educationally sophisticated than almost all of Europe outside of the Low-Countries and N. Italy. They "fell apart" due to cultural distance and the decentralized nature of the horse tribes, but to a large extent the Mamluks, Ottoman Turks, Cossacks and Mughals were heirs/relatives of the Khaganates.
