Default Who likes playing with the HRE? Why?

I've always decided between France and HRE, and it seems that I have always chosen to play with France. And France seems to me stronger than HRE (especially when talking about knights). Besides that, the territory of France looks better to me than that of HRE (in HRE, every settlement seems to be the same, only with a different name).

So, what do you guys love in playing with HRE (the Holy Roman Empire)?

The fact that, by turn 20, you're in a total war with all your neighbours and it becomes hard to just hang on to your territories, let a lone expand.

hre are fun to play the first couple dozen turns
if everything went alright than it gets kind of meaningless later
since no one around is strong enough to touch you anymore
all the real empires are in the east

    What I love about HRE.
    1. Placement. 2. Are black on map, so they make it like a west empire while TO is the east empire. 3. So many options to expand. 4. Don't need ships as much as France. 5. They got cool names! 6. They got a quiet nice troops. 7. They have a castles in the mountains 8. can fight on more fronts than any other country I think. 9. player must play because otherwise they destroy themselves! 10. Perfect for hardened total war veterans. 11. HRE is playable by every player if they chose the right ai and difficulty level.

what do you like about the placement? or the answer is 4 and 8?

what ai and difficulty do you play HRE? I'd like something with a bit of challenge, but not too hard either.

Might say the answer lies in 4 and 8 yes.

Well I play on lusted ai with M/M as HRE but that's just too easy to be honest, I play on that ai mostly because I like being more in peace with certain factions rather then fighting them like France, I've no interest in their lands so I don't want to spend time fighting them. But still I get the option to start war with every faction around me if it's to easy, just to make the game little harder.

I'd recommend H/H or M/M with savage ai, though I've never tested that ai, but I think it's good for those who like a bit of challenge that's not too hard.

I like them because they're really powerful. You can expand to wherever you want to, but the only challenge is until 70-100 turns. Beyond that point , no one but no one can really stop you.

Antony: "Oh, the lictors guild, very good. Only rally the bakers and the flute players and you can put on a festival."

It is a good challenge for a MTWII player.

Also, the many different choices one has when expanding. Take France out and become a very solid Carolingian Empire, take Denmark/Scandinavia, go south into Italy and rake in $... Not the same as a Venice, Genoa, or etc. campaign, where the best choice is fairly obvious.

They're great because you can keep coming back to them becuase of the amount of campaign styles
    1. Classic feudal versus France
    2. Infantry heavy versus Denmark
    3. Militia wars in Italy
    4. Lighter cavalry in Eastern Europe
    5. Aiding your Teuton Brothers in the Baltic

And they are only the obvious routes...

Pretty much agree with this... not my favorite faction but can be fun. As player its too easy to concentrate forces and win by turn 30 but watching the AI HRE die every campaign is sad.

Cool units and the possibility to make the game as hard or easy as you want too.

Guys, when does the HRE get the Hanseatic League message? (First time playing SS here - Early Campaign)

HRE is really fun, many ways to play with it. But one thing that I'm a little disappointed is the roster. After my final submod roster will be finished, I think I'll tackle this faction next. They deserves that.

    Interested.

I forget, is there a Zweihander *spelling?* unit in SS for the HRE? I haven't taken this faction for a spin in some time...

Still based on the latest RR/RC Compilation, but I don't think the HRE roster have changed since then.

    Thanks for the link!

I forgot all about the Forlorn Hope unit! Another one I liked.

Does anyone ever see either of these in any AI HRE stacks? I feel like I've only seen it once, and it was in a crusading army.

Uhh sorry but I can't seem to find the time I should receive the first message in there. Anyone else know what year this happens in an early campaign? Srry for being off topic but I don't wanna start a new thread for this...

Yes they can but only at specific regions.
    Such as?
