It seems like generals are no longer dying with 30 bodyguards...
Is that good or bad?
It's good, it was so annoying when they died first and their bodyguards stood around. If it is intentional then kudos. I've seen the general die last quite a few times...it makes it easier to send them into battle without worrying if their guards will be paying attention. Historically I don't know who died first, I guess it is all situational, depending on whether or not the general is trying to be a hero, but I like it better this way.
While survivability may have been bumped, it seems as though intelligence is still lacking...I'm trying to fight the Turks with a 5,500-man army against against a 1,600-man Turkish army...it should be an easy fight and yet for some reason my king keeps dying...I have to put the king's army under AI control or the second army being led by the prince is not eligible to fight and for some really dumb reason the king keeps riding way out infront of his army to his death...it has happened 4x in a row...I would just forget it and defend the siege, rather than fighting a field battle, but I'm facing a Jihad and there are 2-3 more Muslim armies incoming...so, of course, I'd rather fight an open-field battle with a huge advantage than face a siege against 3-4 armies with a single army. Ugh.
edit - Figures...I decided not to fight and the king died of old age the next turn...the game code obviously had enough of him.

to me its a pain in the %%%, why? because my general dies when fighting against cavalry millitia and the AI general kills at least 3 of mineelite cavalry....
Indeed... I always have a wingman unit {kingsbodygaurd +1} charge in first, delaying the king/general's charge just long enough so that it too will carry a charge to the target unit.
The cover unit absorbs a lot of damage that would otherwise either kill or severely damage my king/general otherwise.
A.I. Generals seem to be like Tony Montana at the end of ScarFace, their whole bodyguard will be laid out dead and that one general will go on hacking and whacking with abandon another 25-40 Pikemen, yes pikemen, and possibly 40-60 spearmen of any kind, of course my General tries a similar thing and gets whacked running over some archers and didn't have any damage at all before the charge started, nevermind trying to fight off pikemen or spearmen, it's not really challenging as it is just absurd and stupid looking.

I recommend that bodyguards are reduced to base size 8.
The game development business is one of bottomless greed, pitiless cruelty, venal treachery, rampant competition, low politics and boundless personal ambition. New game series are rising, and others are starting their long slide into obscurity and defeat.
yeah lower bodyguard to 8 or make them less powerful there is no way that 3 of my full units of zweihanders for the the templars should lose to 1 unit of egyption bodyguard
