    Default Finances and the navy

    Hello

    I have a question.

Back when i was a scrub playing the first total war - Medieval Total war - i lost a few campaigns due to not knowing how to make money, till the day i started placing ships in every sea region. In MTW the sea was divided in that way, and as soon as i did that, cashed started flowing in.

The other day i started wondering about this but in a RTW context. As we know, there arent any sea divisions in this game, but there are those lines connecting trade from port to port, depending on with whom you have established trade rights / war.

My question is does having navy out in sea have any impact on trade and thus the economy? And the opposite, if there's enemy navy around in the areas of your ports - i dont mean blockading - also have a negative impact on the economy?

Or is the navy there for sake of navy battles and protecting your ports?

Just having ships around doesn't make any difference to trade.

    Shogun I 2000
    Medieval I : 2002
    RTW: 2004
    RTW:bi/ alexander 2006
    Medieval II: 2006
    Med II kingdoms: 2007
    ETW: 2007
    NTW: 2010
    Shogun II: 2011
    RTW 2: ????

For your Q rebel/pirate ships does have that negative effect on your trade just by being there. All other enemy ships/your ships does not have that effect.

I never came into contact with Shogun, hence MTW was the first for me.

Hope. Because MTW2 looked boring, ETW was a trainwreck and NTW probably wasn't any better.

I hope that RTW2 is out next too. It will be interesting to see if the AI is improved in Shogun2. The AI was non-existent in ETW, however there were substantial improvements to the economic model and other areas too. If CA can just improve the AI then these new games might be very good.
