    Default Direct x question.

Well I just downloaded the mount and blade warband demo off steam and I try to run it it says d3dx9_42.dll is missing. So I searched for it and found I might be behind on a directx update. Could somebody confirm this.

If go to start/run then type(no quotes) "dxdiag" and smack enter.
Look near the bottom of the first tab(system) and your dx version should be there. 9.0c is the latest one I believe, if yours is different then you can probably download the lastest one somewhere on the internet.

Otherwise just put this file in the same folder as your program's .exe:
    http://www.dll-files.com/dllindex/dl...shtml?d3dx9_42

Edit: I'm assuming your using XP? Otherwise you should be using dx10 for Vista or 11 for Win7.

DirectX 10 and 11 don't install all of the DirectX 9 files so that's your problem if you're on Vista or 7.

Disable the UAC and install http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/e...displaylang=en.

    It's the full dx9 package.

Yeah, that's a big problem on Vista/7. You're definitely missing part of the DX9 package. I'm constantly telling people that on the Paradox Interactive forums, as EU3 used DX9.

Microsoft do it on purpose. They try cut all backwards compatibility to force people to upgrade.

It does make sense. XP and dx9 are too damn popular.

But if the person is having this problem they have already upgraded.

Most developers distribute with the version of DX needed to play the game anyway. In the case of EU3, it just didn't always install for some reason. I know Steam's always taking an extra 200mb to install DX on me, even though I already have it.

I ran into this with Vista 1.0 and Rome Total War. Figure I've been doing this for almost four years. Even with dx11 and Microsoft says otherwise, you want the old dx9 games, install it yourself.

And finding a binary download is practically impossible, if you don't know where to look. Everything's in stupid .zip files.

It's not forcing you to upgrade is it?

If you're happy with XP, no.

With Empire and Napoleon using Large Memory Addresses now, it's either MadBoris' Out of Memory Workaround posted in Empire Tech forum or upgrade to 64bit. If I'm going up upgrade to XP 64bit, I'm going to the new OS.

    Just being me.

I should have been more specific. Im running Vista and according to the dxdiag the direct x version is 11.

Yeah, of course it does. Just download and install DX9, and it should work. Like Ishan said: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/e...displaylang=en

The problem is, DirectX 10 and 11 don't include parts of DX 9 that you need. In this case, it's probably d3dx9_42.dll.

It is because you will be missing written documents.
Step 1. You may acquire http://www.d3dx9.net/download-missing-d3dx9_42-dll/ listed here.
Step 2. Substance that submit for your system32 in addition to process directory. Additionally place it with your syswow
Step 3. Browse through in your System32(32Bit OS) or maybe SyWOW64(64Bit The gw990) Directory.
Note: The venue with System32 or perhaps SyWOW64 is
C:Windows\System32 (If you work with 32Bit Windows 7)
C:\Windows\SysWOW64 (if you are using 64Bit House windows)
Step 4.Paste your d3dx9_42.dll in to that directory.
Step 5.Manage the action. It would deliver the results at this moment.
