    Default Worried about Shogun 2

Watching the preview battles, it looks like the game still has a lot of the issues from Napoleon and Empire.

Running off the same engine, meaning many similar bugs. The biggest one is the melee. Since all the fights are now done with motion capture, there are no backstabs or overwhelming numbers anymore. Only a few troops seem to be fighting, while the bulk sit back and watch. This effectively means that ten or twelve guys from a highly trained regiment will do all the fighting for an entire engagement, instead of them all hacking guys to bits.

The next thing that bothers me is that, now, instead of ladders, or grappling hook ETW ninjas, they just climb.

THEY JUST CLIMB THE STUPID WALL.

I didn't know that Japan built their fortifications like play structures. Is it that hard to animate a bloody ladder?

Anyways, these are my two major concerns at the moment.

I haven't done this recently, but I'm pretty sure in E:TW people can be killed by generic attacks while they;re in a mocap sequence. Mocap or just animations, I'm definitely sure it were possible in Medieval II

THEY JUST CLIMB THE STUPID WALL.

Well battles were not really like what you see in movies where the men were mashed together fighting in a 360 circle it was pretty much just 2 fronts colliding so the engine simulates that pretty well.

I realize that, but Even when you have two lines pushing at each other, you expect them to do more than stand around watching a few mocap fights.

I hate when I see the first line attacked only the first line of the opposition. I think they should fix this bug.

well what else could they do,i dont want the animations to look like rome because when you compare it to empire or nap they actually look really ugly and not only that they chopped through each other way to fast.

Also if you had your guys set on defensive in empire they would hold there position and only the men attacked would retaliate but try it out let 2 groups get into melee then once they are fighting turn off defensive and all the men just go apesh!t and try and get a kill for them selves.

I would assume ladders would create pathfinding issues, not as much as climbing however. In some cases you could climb the walls literally but not all the time. I think the wall climbing is just a design choice. I also imagine when units charge they cause mpact hits that result in instant deaths or bonuses. I personally prefer the one on one fights but I imagine they will be impact hits.

Plus in real hand to hand combats, usually sides would back up and pile back together to my understanding

I'm holding my breath with shogun and have lots of doubts but deep down I can't contain my happiness to play as any sort of asian faction, while most tw players have been able to play their respectable nations or at least see parts that they live in in-game I've yet to do so(I had expected it with ETW) as with many of my fellow asian community members

In the end though, I'm dreading the appeal of shogun to the community, though I'm personally happy.......it's arguably more financially sound to make RTW 2 I would think
