Unit Modding Help in Vista

I've looked through the modding Q and A and the tutorial threads but I can't seem to find anything addressing this.

Basically I want to edit some of the unit attack and defense values and I know how to find the EDU file but whenever I try to change anything I get an error message "Cannot create the . . . file. Make sure that the path and file name are correct."


Is there some step I'm missing?
