removing the tgw line in your user script might work

no, because of the format of the text files, you have to delete that file entirely or you would be playing napoleon with WWI text. its better to uninstall, you can alway either re-download the mod and install it again, or keep the downloaded file somewhere on your computer. Thats what I do.

Simply move your GreatWar.pack and GreatWarText.pack into a seperate folder (can be within the data folder) and you should be fine I don't know if issues will arise out of your user.script, I shouldn't think so, but if they do I would suggest modmanager for the convenience

Universal method of playing more mods/vanilla for ETW/NTW

Download ModManager, and use it for the mod files. You'll have no problems

About the text files, see with ModManager what movie packs do you have in the folder. Rename each of these files extension (except media, patch_media and patch_media2) to something else (from .pack to .pacpac, for example). Each time you want to play a certain mod, you can just rename it's own file extension to .pack. No need of moving around 500mb files, getting annoyed of CTDs, etc.
