Default Watching DVD's on my computer?

So for Christmas I got the complete World at War DVD boxset, which is totally awesome. My problem is that now I want to watch it on my PC but when I put in a DVD windows media player tells me I need to buy an MPEG decoder extension or something like that to play a DVD. So is there any good free legal software out there that lets me watch my DVD's on my computer. I don't need anything fancy or really indepth and technical either, I just want to put my World at War DVD's into my computer and watch them.
