Default Is Westboro baptist Church's real goal to protect freedom of speech?

Reading their wikipedia description, I have noticed following things:
    A. They have everything an American patriot loves.
    B. That their POV is often contradictory. For example, they claim that Saddam's Iraq was a free place and that Saddam was a great man, yet in other claims they say that the Muslim religion is filthy.

What you think about this theory?

    Unlikely, in the extreme.

Their goal is to spread Christian fundamentalism, a perversed form of Christ's teachings and above everything hate for those who are different.

Calling them Freedom of Speech defenders is as ridiculous as comparing Neonazis with Civil Rights activists.

    They hate:

    1) Secular thinking

    2) Other religions

    3) Other cultures

    4) People with different Sexual tendencies

I'm pretty sure that they will eventually hate blacks and Hispanics too. They hate everything that's not THEIR OWN TYPE OF WASPNESS.

Hating the muslim religion doesn't neccesarily equal hating muslims (Although you are right that for the WBC that is probably the case)

The weird thing is that I've heard people say that 1-1 Phelps is actually a nice seeming normal guy.

It seems closer to trolling than trying to accomplish anything at all.

    ^this

I bet that if these people ever had even an ounce of power they would forbid any form of free speech that was not their own

It seems to be their objective is simply to piss people off...

On your Iraq and Islam comment though, I would like to point out that Saddam's Iraq was supposed to have a secular leadership.

Possibly. I mean perhaps Hitler didn't really believe any of his policies, he just wanted immortality, which he definitely gained. He's the most infamous person who ever lived.

Much more likely (but still incredible unlikely) is that they are trying to trigger a respons that would involve a clamp down on freedom of speech.
