Nothing confirmed, but there'll be enough.

65 or 69 for multiplayer. So I guess it will roughly be the same, and that is plenty enough (for me).

I don't mind less provinces so much.
I didn't like that at least every other battle in R/M2:TW were sieges. It didn't help either that those sieges were deathly boring.
Also. maybe provinces will be worth more individually, or maybe even specifically worthwhile compared to every other province.
Less is more, some people say and perhaps this will hold true with S2 as well.
Can`t say that. Offcourse mostly i played Mods like EB or BC but the system was the same. On very hard it is mostly suicide to attack a city. Mostly i siege them and than i destroy the hole Enemy force including Reinforcement Armys on field and after that the city is mine. Boring was Empire with the sieges indeed.
The point is that if every faction has only 2 or 3 Provinces, they can be destroyed very easy. Conquer a faction is in the last games only a thing of few turns and this wasn`t so in the past. It was so great to spent 400 or more Turns to build the Roman Empire in EB or conquer the ex Alexander Empire with the Macedonians. I like Micromanagement and the games will be more casual of game to game... By the way 30 Units... I could live with that if we get a unit editor witch was announced for empire or Napoleon.

I've read 65 on the mainland and 12 in the sea (small islands)
The source is PCgamer Sweden, but I may have misread it.

I was wondering there would be less provinces, but seem not. 60-80 sound good number of provinces.

77 seems like a good estimate. That means that, if they're keeping the newer etw/ntw system of multiple cities and villages in one region, that means that Japan will feature HUNDREDS of settlements, and campaigns will be huge, though bad for campaign micro.
Lol how many different answers in the thread already? At least we've got an estimate until we see sources![]()

77 was the provinces in the MP campaign. That was a fact from last previews (includeing 12 see provinces). In the preview they said too that the Mp campaign was in such a modified version of the SP Campaign, so i think something between 60 or 70 provinces (because in SP you dont have See Provinces)
Hmmm... but 8 majors, right? Maybe the other 22 get 1 province each, so it's like 43/8, around five.
Could be wrong of course, but they would do away with the strange "rebel faction" this way and maybe even allows a more dynamic campaign map with micro-factions fighting amongst each others. I always found the rebels that passively sat in their provinces to be a missing enemy in a way.

lol no. There are 10 playable factions, don't know where you got 8 from. 1 of which is a special edition bonus. And there will be no return of the rebels. Factions start with a single provence or two.
