Default RTW using -mod and hording issue

OK I just wanted to check if anyone had tried this and got it to work.

I ran the Bi executable usign the -mod and this seemd to work - ie runs RTW under v1.6.

I then wanted to check the hording function. so created a dummy horde unit (the desert infantry renamed and copied in the export units file with the horde attribute). Updated the unit Vnv with the new descriptions - and added in the UI units and unit info cards.

I also amended the sm factions to make Numidians horde.

Now if I play any race otehr than numidians - there isn't a problem, However playing numidians I get an instant CTD.

If I switch the 'new' unit to non hording - and take all the numidian hording bits out of the SM factions file it works.

So question is has anyone got the BI exe to work for RTW including the hording characteristics.

    OK Understand its as follows

    "N:\Copy of Rome - Total War\RomeTW-BI.exe" -mod:mymod_folder -show_err -nm

Not sure what use this is though as the game starts OK when not playing the numidians.

How many short cut commands is actually irrelevant to the problem - and the intro videos don't come up so the third one is still being acted on.

Having used the Mod command the issue and question was has anyone got the horde option to work?

Alpaca - you answered one of my threads saying this was what you needed to do? If you are out there can you confirm you actually did this and got it to work?

So the -nm third command I'm using isn't really working? I'll bear that in mind next time I start the game and they don't start up.

The command line info isn't relevant to the original question of this topic.

I dont think its possible to horde in RTW, only BI.
Maybe you mean berbers, not numidians?

No I meant Numididans. The point of the exercise was to run RTW with the bi.exe and set up a RTW faction with the horde capability. Whilst I haven't checked that this doesn't work. The specific issue is that having set it up. If you play another faction there is no CTD but if you play the faction set up to horde I'm getting a CTD as it loads the campaign.
I'll probably move on to checking if the horde function itself definitely doesn't work set up this way but jsut trying to find out if anyone who has said this aught to work has ever actually done it.

Reminds me of some people I met who got lost in Botswana trying to reach a specific destination. They kept radioing their boss for directions only to find after getting more hoplesssly lost that he had never travelled that route! Boy were they impressed!

It also certainly works if you are not the faction that can horde and you take their last city. Although whether its completley stable may depend on understanding the original problem I listed.

The problem when playing as a faction that can horde looks like it may be tied to the statement (bit of a guess)

    banner_horde 0, 0, 1, 1, bi/data/textures/#horde_symbol.tga
    reference.

I am not exactly sure but I once actually managed to ge it to start with a version of this amended even thoguh it crashed pretty quick- but when I tried to repeat it, it kept crashing instantly so I probbaly did something slightly differently.

or it may be tied to some of the other references (eg sound references). My worry is in case the crash happens not instantly when you are the horde faction but instead simply happens at a later stage when you don't expect it.

OK finally sussed it out so no more instant CTD when playing a RTW hording faction eg Numidians with the Bi.EXE and -mod parameter.

I next need to try and see what happens if I add any swimming attributes although I must admit I disabled that in BI before the 1.6 patch came out as it was more problematic anyway.

ET: Dr. Fox is right, you can use more than 2 command line switches. Maybe this changed with one of the patches. I usually use: "E:\Program Files\Activision\Rome - Total War\RomeTW.exe" -show_err -ne -nm -mod:xgm and I assure you that all four switches work as advertised.

wilddog: If you have hords working in RTW we would all love to see a guide for doing it .

Tell me when you get the sacking to work
    Or spawning on event.

No thing is everything. Every thing is nothing.

Alpaca - Are you hinting at a sacking issue? So far no issue with sacking or occupying if playing the hording nation. Starting to Set up a campaign so will see if there is an issue with the AI. Probaly wont' know until later in the week as I want to use one of the early extended maps that came out.

    Proved out
    1) Starting game not as a faction that can horde but with Numidians set up to horde.
    2) Starting game as Numidians with one town and can horde.
    3) Opted to horde - playing as Numidian.
    4) Sacked a town - playing as Numidian
    5) Occupied a town - Playing as a Numidian.

Got to admit I really like using the -mod command now as it allows you to keep clean version of RTW and BI.

Probably wont check out spawning for a while as I want to set up a new campaign to check out whether there are any other issues - and play and possibly add some of the new formation types.

Haven't added in loyalty, swimming etc yet - and there may be a minor issue with the swimming icon.

DimeBagHo - Don't mind doing a guide but want to check out some more things first reference the icon issue for those want that attribute. Its actually pretty straight forward. I'll try and do in the week as I want to try and set up a new campaign with map and units and play today.

Have you managed to use -mod the mod switch with a separate mod folder? I've managed to get the BI exe working with RTW using just -mod: but so far I've had no luck getting it to work with an actual mod folder like -mod:xgm.

For the on spawning even have a look at ( http://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=59665 )
Essentially as far as we can tell you need
    1) A faction named as the SLAVS (ie rename the internal name of the faction from Numidians to SLAVS).
    2) They need to emerge on a province which borders the edge.
    3) Once the SLAVS are included you can make additional factions emerge.
(We tested this out today using the -mod setup)

    Alpaca
Regarding the SLAVS point. They do need to be included and other factions can then be set to emerge whether the SLAVS actually start in the game, are set to emerge with a trigger or even set to emerge but never triggered in the descr_events.txt (although you lose the use of a faction in this case) in the descr_events.txt - Makanyane just tested these scenarios.
