    Default Anybody here uses Homeopathy?

I am curious. I debated a friend of mine who believes that homeopathy works. No matter what I say even with scientific evidence that says it's just a placebo effect. She still believes that it works.

Adam, I'm so sorry you are very wrong. You will just have to live with the knowledge that 16 children though my home responding from birth-ish age on up to talking toddler, is enough evidence to me that you know nothing of what you repeat from reading online.
What more do you want from me? lol You need to drop the subject and leave the people who are watching the results with their own eyes to their findings. You can rant and rave all you want about YouTube videos that anyone can make up. You're the one who will believe anyone. If I wanted I could waste my time sending you links of videos telling you the videos you found on YouTube are full of crap but I would rather watch a movie. Sorry! Go listen to some peaceful Adam music and BE-lax! (relax).
BTW these are the videos I shown her:

Well how about it? Do you support it eventhough science proved other wise?

This is not science so I'm not sure it's in the right forum.

Something for the Ethos maybe, it's essentially a matter of faith.

Well she claims it's not faith. lol Also we don't have an Pseudoscience section, so I thought this was the best place.

We're not talking about faith here Adam, we are talking about using a product for it's results. If it works, there is your proof.
However, because direct natural things (like plants, trees, etc) can not have a patent placed on them they are discounted as not "real". They can patent Brand X but that does not stop anyone else from making the same product and then out selling the Brand X. Therefore, it is not lucrative for pharmaceutical companies to put research or time into products made using easily accessible things (like plants, trees, etc.).
I don't care what Harriet Hall says, no offense to her -I've never heard of her as most people have not. For every one book written with a similar opinion as hers there are 30 books written with positive advise on using Homeopathy. So right there is a 30 to 1 proof it is good science. You can always find someone who will disagree. I will even allow you 30 to 1 odds you can find someone. (Probably very generous odds.) Like I said, it works and there is my proof.

Tell her faith is crutch of weak minded.

Using products for results is all good, but only if results are caused BY product not DESPITE it.

Challenge her to a test. Every time she or some of those kids are sick, she lets you give them medicine. Either homeopathic product or just plain water.

Then she must be able to tell which product was used.

If she fails repeatedly to recognize use of homeopathy, effects in health are NOT result of homeopathic substances but their own immune systems.

Regarding the odds... Her odds are way off. Advice her to visit place with medical journals instead of new age crapshops.

Oh yes, and about plants. Most pharmaceuticals research plants very extensively. They try to isolate the effective substances in the plants for use and synthetisation.
Why? Because plants are not uniform in content, and depending on plant the actual amount of effective substance can be very varied. For purposes of medicine, dosages must be accurate and consistent.

Something herbal medicine can never achieve. Same amount of same kind of plant can in one case be overdose and in another it ends up short. Despite required dose being identical.

Nonsense, there are plenty of "plants and trees" that have real effects and no one would claim otherwise.
Homeopathy on the other hand cannot work because it contains nothing, nothing but water.

Sometimes doctors give homeopathic medicine to people who are not really physically ill but for some reason
are convinced that they actually are. It's not that surprising that nothing can cure nothing.

I don't even know what homoeopathy is. I tried searching on Google and I did some reading on Wikipedia, but my conception of it is still blurred.

It works like this: If non diluted poison ivy causes itching. Very diluted poison ivy can heal itching. Also the active ingredition must be very diluted. To a point that 3 drops of poison ivy into the Atlantic ocean. The reason why we can do that because water has memory of the poison ivy even though it's 99.999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999% water.

The point is that you should cure a disease with a substance that causes similar symptoms to said disease.
But the "medicines" used are so watered down that they don't even include 1 molecule of the supposedly beneficial chemical.

Some of it is probably more of a distraction than a placebo. There was something like HeadOn that I tried using a few years ago when I had a migraine. I spread it on my forehead and it felt like I was diving head-first into a pool of acid it burned so bad. Certainly made me forget about my migraine though.

    water has memory
That's the point where's this theory crosses from silly/lack of education to lunacy/outright fraud.

That's the only thing you need to watch to understand that homeopathy is total nonsense. Behold her brilliant derivation of how energy equals the speed of light squared! And also God sent us Stephen Hawking to give us string theory...apparently.

Also I agree that this should be in the Ethos. There's no science to be found with this topic.

If water had memory of chemicals how could you drink any water without unpredictable and horrific consequences?

If pharmaceutical companies and their profits are behind the non-acceptance of homeopathy, then why was it so vilified
in Soviet Union that had nothing to do with those capitalist pigdogs?

Haha "pigdogs" imagine that a best friend that you could eat and Koreans would be horrified at the notion. But seriously how could this even be given the time of day. What person would be so devoid of reason so as to believe this crap. And even worse are the people who don't understand physics and then use it to justify their lies, someone should shoot these schweinhunds. A remark to trax's post is that if a person pees in the ocean then there are enough molecules expelled so that at least one is present in every glass of water in the world

Homeopathy belongs in EMM not here.
