- assume this takes place in Scaurus's place of residence in Rome after his last words on the Curia (new thread?)-
Regilliensis enters the modest home of Scaurus, following a slave into the atrium, where he meets him.
"General," he said, bowing and performing a military salute. "I am former Tribunus Claudius, Sir, I served under your command in the campaigns of Sagunton and Emporiae."
Claudius? Do come in, come in. So, what brings you over?

ooc: sorry about the delay, back to school :/
ic:
"Thank you Sir. I have come here partially to introduce myself, and to seek political counsel from you. I am new to the senate, and was seeking a mentor. I understand you are now leaving, but I still wished to have a word with you before your departure. I see this man, Pallas, with whom you seem to have had a few encounters with. If I may ask, why is that?"
Pallas? Pallas is a mad dog barking at any tree he sees. Truthfully I cannot even ascribe any quality to him. At times his views are radical and frightening, yet at others, he is a staunch ally to the traditional way. And that, is what makes him so difficult to read and such a dangerous man to have.
I never approached him, it was the other way around. He is skillful at what he does, that is for certain. His degeneracies are practically nonexistant, of course, some would say that's because he's murdered everyone who managed to stay on his bad side. But if he did, he would've been in court long ago and exiled if not damned to rot in the Tullianum.
I suspect part of the reason he's like this is his father. Old Rutulus. I served with him during the last war against the Punics. Odd, I can't seem to recall his name anymore. But I remembered him well. Clear voice, powerful personality. He was also a political hardliner who didn't like to compromise. I suppose that's why he left politics. Argued that the Senate has lost its way and exiled himself in the East, dabbling in gods-know-what... And Pallas never had any clear man to follow after except for memories of his father, which of course, were nowhere near the actual truth.
I've been keeping an eye on him, but he's managed to successfully take my own ambitions and push me out of Rome. I fear what may happen if he is free to do as he pleases.

Regilliensis nodded,
"Yes, if the wars have taught me something it is to read men well. Those who have courage in their eyes, the cowardly ones, the astute ones and the liars as well. In Pallas I see nothing but a void, and deep one. You may leave in peace General, I shall keep him under my watch, and inform you of his doings as well. You have my word."
A letter arrives bearing the seal of the Julii
Senator Scaurus,
Greetings, i hope all is well in Rome. As you yourself were once governor of Hispania, as well as one of the wisest among the Senate, i wish to speak with you if at all possible. It is of utmost importance, yet i know it would be hard to travel to Hispania. If there is anywhere we can meet, please write back. As the conquest of Hispania is temporarily on hold while troop numbers are replenished, i am available for travel.
Best wishes, and good health Senator, I hope to hear back from you soon

Scaurus,
Your words are as painful for me to read as they are absurd. To abandon the republic and form my own state in Spain? The mere accusation of such things is to me worse than the blade of a Punic. Remember we are not the belligerents here in Spain. Our holdings in Emporiae were originally attacked, and we have counter attacked by taking the Punic pride of Carthago Nova. I continued this invasion, with full senatorial approval to do so, and took Gadir. And now with the arrival of the Carthaginian prince, i have legally requested permission from the senate to temporarily take half a legion and sack Tingi, and by the Gods slay the Carthaginian Prince. Immediately therafter, Roman forces would withdraw or hold the city, depending on Senatorial debate. I have no interest in betraying the Senate, Scaurus. Everything I have done has been legal under Roman Law. I have not yet even stepped foot off of Iberian soil, and thus do not see where your accusations are coming from.
Lucius, we have been firm allies in the past, you embraced me as a friend when i was elected to the Senate. I trusted your counsel and still do. But these accusations are absurd, and I will not sit idly as you accuse me of being a Rebel and traitor to Rome. If it is the wishes of the Senate, i shall not step foot in Africa. I am sorry friend, but i pray you see things for what they really are. We are not all rebels, traitors, kings, and despots Scaurus. If it is the will of the Senate, i shall renounce my Imperium and return to Rome immediatley.
Gaius Julius Septimus
