    Just noticed another strange problem. I took Sofia, but it won't let me build anything even though I have the money and there are plenty of buildings available. When I click on them, it makes the usual sound, but nothing happens. Even stranger, there are two units listed as available for recruitment; one is unavailable due to the low recruitment pool (as I think it should be since I just took the place) but the other, which appears to be available but refuses to be recruited (in just the same way as the buildings refuse to be built) is Magyar Cavalry!

    I would have posted this elsewhere but for the possibility that it might be related to the other problem.

    (In the picture, ignore the minimap discoloration; that is from tabbing in and out while zoomed in.)

    Ill look into that problem with Scopia, as for that recruitment/build thing, did you select longer assimilation in the setup?

    Yes, and BGR II.

    Oh--is that what it does? Does it still show the buildings as available even though they aren't yet? That would explain that.

    Sorry about that confusion earlier. Anyway, I ran another couple of tests. In two custom battles, one set Early and the other in all eras (just in case that affects the castle models at all), I assaulted a wooden castle as the Byzantines with Hungary as the enemy and Carpathia as the map and they ran perfectly. But I tried the Scopia attack after Sofia's successful capture and it crashed to desktop again.

    Pardon me; I meant to mention that the castles were of the Southern European culture.

    I hate to post four times in a row, but the problem persists, and I was hoping to find out if anyone is still working on it. In the meantime I have done some experiments that indicate that the game settings are not directly at fault (which AI, the campaign victory conditions, BGR, difficulty, etc.), nor the units and equipment involved, nor does it matter if I play single player or hotseat--it still kicks me out while loading the Scopia battle map when I assault it as the Byzantines. A Sicilian campaign I played did not meet with the problem, even when I attacked Scopia (then still independent). The Byzantines are my favorite faction, and SS 6.4 is shaping up to be my favorite mod, so I'd really like to see if we can get through this. I'd be more than happy to help where I can!

    Could you maybe try and send me a savegame? I cannot find anything that would be wrong with particularly one castle type...
    Also, there is one thing. Do you have a lot of HDD space? Could you install whole 6.3 into a folder outside program files, then install 6.4, and see if any files popup as "corrupted" perhaps?
    Some users reported (with 6.3) that they have successfully downloaded 6.3 but one of the files in the install was corrupted (a random one, just bad download), perhaps this happened same in your case.

    Thank you for the quick reply!
    My theory that it was a castle type was disproven by the experiment with the Sicily campaign in which I attacked Scopia and didn't have any problems. I will try the reinstallation. In the meantime, here is the save from the first game in which the problem appeared. It occurs only in an assault on Scopia (not Sofia, which is also under siege).

    Sorry; it says a '.sav' is an invalid file type. Is there another way to do this?

    I installed outside of Program Files again, 6.3 and 6.4 fresh install. It failed in that the bug is still there, but I think I might have found the error message you were looking for, Gracul.

    When installation is complete, the installer sends you straight into the setup program where you pick your campaign, AI, BGR setting, etc. I did that for the first time with the new installation and then hit the button in the bottom right that says something to the effect of "Start and Exit" (when it was ready) in order to exit the setup program and launch 6.4. This very first time, I got an error message saying "kingdoms.exe" was missing and therefore it would not start (see below). Now that I've done this again like you said, I remember having seen that message before, the first time I installed outside Program Files. After closing that, I was able to start 6.4 using the shortcut despite the apparent error. The CTD in the assault on Scopia occurred again as usual.

    So I have a new theory: What if the installation outside of Program Files doesn't have the access it needs to the Kingdoms installation inside Program Files? Is it possible that this separation is at the heart of the problem? If so, that would be my fault for not thinking of the obvious thing, but if that's all it is, I'll take it!

    I experienced what I suspect is the same issue. I started a early era short campaign as the The Crusader Kingdom (Or whatever it's called, lol). Initiated a siege attack on a rebel castle on turn 2 after building 1 ram and 2 ladders. The loading screen for the battle appears, partially loads, hangs for like 5 minutes, and then CTD's with a generic W7 error message that the program stopped working.

    Possible notable info:

    After the install (to a folder on desktop), I ran setup, 6.4 launched and CTD'd on the opening screen. I received the same error message as Lon3wo7f, about the kingdoms exe file. Afterwards I launched 6.4 from desktop shortcut and was able to begin a campaign.

    Logfile attached. Let me know if I need to provide any other information.

    Thanks!

    open deault.cfg and find this

    [log]
    to=mods/SS6.3/system.log.txt
    level=* error
    ;level=* trace
    and change it to this

    [log]
    to=mods/SS6.3/system.log.txt
    ;level=* error
    level=* trace
    Crash the game and then upload the whole file. (rar or zip it)

    Ok. Done. If I understood it right, it says I'm missing a lot of files, which will probably involve another day of reinstalling? lol

    Are you sure this isn't just a symptom of a lack of contact with kingdoms.exe as in the "6.4 Crash When Startup" thread (http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=419026)?
