Default Return of the "Kingdoms style reinforcement"?

Hey, first of all I want to say that it is not confirmed as it's not explicitly said,

    However...

In a quote from http://news.bigdownload.com/2011/01/...t-total-war-s/ (thanks to Ragga, his thread made me take a read of this )

Q - How "big" is the development team aiming for the battles to be in terms of numbers of units fighting each other?

A (part of it) - "The truly epic battles will take place later in the campaign as factions rally together to fight the player"

Now, as I said, this is not explicit confirmation, but to me that sounds like the return of multi-stack battles. It's saying that the truly epic battles (larger battles) will be later in the game. I highly doubt that most of the game will be small few unit battles, therefore the battles themselves must consist of more than one stack later in the campaign. There's my reasoning...

Just wishful thinking on my part? Not sure, but it does sound promising, or maybe I'm looking into that too much. I'm just desperate to see this feature return and I'm sure that CA won't have missed out on the general opinion that the public want this feature back...I'm sure most people will agree that the "trickle in" system really was not good at all

So, what do you think? (Apologies if you don't think this is worth it's own thread, I just got excited when I read this )

Different factions that "rally together to fight the player" always appeared as two different armies on the battle map, in ETW/MTW as well.
The trickle-in system was only in place for a single faction getting reinforcements.

Yes I know, but he mentions about larger battles happening when they "rally together"...The trickle in-system doesn't. That's what's getting me excited

I didn;t mind the trickling in system as much. It's a good way to simulate several waves of attacks.

It's just too bad the AI is so retarded and sent units to their deaths 1 by 1.

But yeah, I do hope that they make it as it used to be.

A 20 unit limit per faction is okay, in my opinion. But iirc E:TW had a 40 unit max. So in a multifaction battle, factions had to wait their turn which was kind of lame.

I doubt it will be. People usually tend to see what they want to see, but being objective, I think it's all about the AI backstabbing and ing you in late game, on campaign map. Only my opinion after the TW experience, anyway.

To me, this just shows like "Yeah, the AI is crap again and is just going to act the player for no reason. Enjoy!"

To me it also sounds like once again, 2/3rds of the game consisting of a whole bunch of small fewer-than-full-stack battles. Then at the end you have some battles with a couple of full stacks here and there and its over.

This is why I have always said the old 2d maps were better. But I know I'm in the minority there.

to me that just says that alll the other factions are going to ally against you to check your growing power. This means there will be more battles (since they are all allying against you), but says nothing about a reinforcement system (unless i misunderstood)

The "Kingdoms reinforcement style" was one of the most innovative features in TW series. It’s too bad that CA didn’t develop this system. IMO, the "Kingdoms reinforcement style" is the key to have more than 20 units in battles. I would be very glad if they bring back this feature with more options to control the reinforcements.

I wold love the Knigdoms reinforcement. As for the statement from CA, it's probably just PR. Fluffy words that don't say much.

I'll believe it when I see it.

As for the trickle-in system, in it's current form it's garbage with reinforcements coming in from random directions with no control over which units will enter first.

If you could set up your reserves before engaging and change them while fighting the battle so the unit(s) you need most will enter first and from behind your main body(could use the general as a rally point for reinforcements) that'll be good.

If they wish to bring back controlled reinforcements then they better allow you to set up their formations from preset ones and hopefully moving individual units while deploying your forces before handing over the reigns to the A.I.

I'm hoping that the enemy AI won't adopt the usual "gang up on the player at all costs" doctrine.
