Default Demo and Steam... Confirmed (Sort of...)

I know there has been some questions if CA would relase a Demo, and if so prior or after the release of Shogun 2...

    http://news.bigdownload.com/2011/01/...t-total-war-s/

    well here is confirmation.

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

Any plans for a beta before its release or a demo for Total War: Shogun 2 after its release?

We'll always attempt to provide gamers with the opportunity to try our games before they buy. Shogun 2 will be no different and should we choose to release a demo, Steamworks is the perfect platform to distribute from.

Furthermore, for those who still questioned if Steam would be used... here is your answer:

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

Will the game use Steamworks for updates, achievements and matchmaking?

Yes! Steam is a great platform for gamers and developers alike. It allows us as developers to update and patch our games with little to no disruption to players and they provide excellent multiplayer dev support to help us implement all the features mentioned earlier. For gamers it provides a platform to easily obtain downloadable content, updates and expansions, automating the sometimes complex installation. Achievements from your campaigns and multiplayer battles will also be visible in your steam profile so you can compare war stories of conquests with all your friends.

Bingo. It's pretty simple to answer a "yes" or "no" with something as concrete as a demo. They either have one planned, or they do not. It's pretty simple stuff.

The extra development time will allow us to finalize and polish Empire, making it the most accomplished and epic of the Total War series." said Kieran Brigden, Studio Communications Manager at The Creative Assembly. "There is a great deal of anticipation around Empire: Total War and we want to ensure that it is the benchmark for strategy games upon its release.

Which was caused by the outrage about CA promising stuff.
Now-a-days they can't even say things without having to think about all the possible consequences, so they play it safe and give you these kind of answers.

    It is ridiculous really.

    I agree.

Alot of the people seem to draw such a feeling of entitlement from every part of every announcement a developer makes, it's retarded.

I've gotten used to Steam so, I don't really mind that

    Regards the demo, I won't buy the game without being able to test a battle on my pc, although they did say;

Should we choose to release a demo

so who knows if and when they actually will. A lot of doublespeak there.

I don't read that as a confirmation at all.

... in an attempt not to lure those in to assumptions, I edited the title with: (Sort of...).

in all honesty, I do apoligize for anyone's waste of time reading the "new" article...

Well it does seem to indicate that they intend to release a demo.

should we choose to release a demo
That's just wiggle room. Lately they have often been charged with breaking promises. I'm sure they hesitate confirming anything.

Anywho, thanks for the heads up.

I think we can be pretty certain there will be a Demo, but will it be before or (like NTW) after release......

The "Should we choose to release a demo" part is just to avoid giving the bashers something to bash on.

And even if they were releasing a demo, there's nothing that says it would be a pre-release demo.

Yes, I'm afraid they didn't say anything with that, nor confirmed anything.

    Same thing like:

Shogun 2 Total War will cost 49,95 Euro's in Europe, should the possiblity arise that we are going to sell it for that price.

    Not saying anything here

That won't stop people from shouting "they promised a demo and never delivered, CA are liars!" later though
