Question about adding / editing Factions
Hello,
I'm new to posting here, but I've been playing and tweaking the TW series for a long time now. I have a question about factions. I'm running BI, but I'm using the RTW campaign & data files (as I wanted some of the BI capabilities). I'm trying to add some of the BI factions to the RTW data files. I'm using 1.5/1.6.
However I get an error when it loads.
here's what I've done:
in descr_sm_faction.txt I added the empire_east faction and some values. (culture of roman)
in descr_model_battle.txt I added a texture line for empire_east for all the unit models that I want them to have access to (for test purposes they are just using the senate textures).
in export_descr_unit.txt I added empire_east to all the units I want them to have (that didn't have roman as the entry)
in export_descr_buidings.txt I added empire_east to all the buildings that I want them to have access to. (that didn't have roman as the entry)
in descr_strat (in a custom campaign folder) I added empire_east to the list of playable factions
the expanded_bi.txt file already has both the BI and RTW texts in there, and I know it uses it as I change the text for a few juilii entries and it was changed in the game.
When I run the game I get an error: empire_east is not a valid faction in export_descr_unit.txt. I get this when the game first loads, before I get to the main menu.
if I remove all the empire_east entries for the export_descr_unit file, the game runs. I'm thinking there are probably other files that I still need to add empire_east entries for but I'm not sure where to start. any pointing in the right direction would be helpful. I find existing mods quite helpful to point me where to look for certain features, but I couldn't find anything on adding a faction. Terrae Expugnandae, and the BI Enhancement Pack have been very instructive and I've really ripped them apart to make exactly what I wanted.
Another totally unrelated issue, some of my generals are into their 80's, in fact no one has died from old age, so I'm wondering if there is something I could have accidentally done to make that happen? Here's what I've done so far (that works and I can play the game with).
No new units - vanilla units but with community skins/models
Night Battles (edited the export_character_traits and export_VnV's)
Loyalty (edited the export_character_traits and export_VnV's)
Swimming (edited export_descr_unit)
Shield Wall for certain units (edited export_descr_unit)
Incorporated a customized BareBones WarMap by IceTorque (pretty much every file in a custom campaign folder)
Incorporated Ferres & Warbird & WarSprites skins and models (descr_model_battle, descr_model_strat)
Incorporated SkyMod (not sure what all it had, i did a bunch of merges however)
Added Stone_Walls for Barbarians (export_descr_buildings, descr_culture, descr_sm_buildings, export_buildings)
Added Health Buildings for Barbarians (export_descr_buildings, export_buildings)
Added Law Bonuses to Walls and Schools like in BI.

There is a faction limit. In RTW, all the faction slots are used, but in BI a few are empty.

hmm
I see now. There are actually 21 entries in both. Well, oh well.
Thanks for the quick answer, and thanks for the mods, I've learned a lot from them.
Oh one more thing, I think it was your mod that I noticed this, but in your Trait for Night Battles, you didn't actually give the value NightBattle 1.
