    Default I have no friends!!!

Seriously is there a way to train your Generals and Family members to gain in Influence? or is it just pot-luck?

I know the faction leaders and heirs gain significant amounts of influence when appointed, but how are the other guys to get any lovin? seeing as they will never be elected to office by the senate.

As far as I'm aware you can load them up with ancillaries (which is tedious) or just by chance with character traits. I guess what I'm wondering is, If there's a technique like retiring generals back to italian cities as with regards to loyalty or are there no such mechanics for it...

Let them get old, and win battles with them.
Those are the two reliable methods.

Of course, too many victories and the loyalty starts to ebb.

Cool I'll try that. Though the 10 victories thing is a be of a , but I quess thats realistic and adds to the flavour

When they have 10 victories put them for some time in a city, when they have spend some time in there your able to use them again in the field.

Most start off with High loyalty levels, so losing a ring is nothing I wouldnt worry about 10 victories thing. also there are other more random ways characters can gain loyalty. I have had generals with 30 battles and no revolt. Dont over worry about this feature. Money is the key if your using a money cheat you will probably have more revolting generals. Sorry dont cheat. lol

lol dont have to worry about me cheating LT! I never cheat, defeats the point of the game and the fun for me.

I'm fine with the loyalty mechanics. My original question was about characters gaining influence. I'm getting a little puzzled as to why all the none italian cities I conquer tend to revolt against me the turn after I take them, even with a full Garrison. I know I'm meant to let generals rebel and so on, But it seriously gets tiresome when a general rebels pretty much everytime I take a city because of high unrest and turning the conquering legion against me. This seems to be happen everytime I take a city! happened to me the last three cities I took in Iberia...

Am I doing something wong? I tend to have to massacre the population just to keep unrest to a minimum! and before you say... I also destroyed the negative buildings like the native temples, but leave the useful ones standing.

One of my conclutions was that the govenor had very little to no infuence even after winning many battles. and can't counter the amount of unrest in a newly occupied territory. and none of my generals tend to have more than +1 influence point!

    Any tips?

Are you lowering taxes all the way? (You probably thought of that)
Are you destroying every destroyable building?
You said you leave the useful buildings intact. I wreck everything that can be destroyed. Traders, military buildings, ports. If it can be razed, I raze it.

Also, are there enemy armies left in the territory? I had Massilia get riot-y on me once just after I captured it because a Gallic stack can into the territory. The nearness of enemies and the devastation they cause will tip the scales in favor of unrest.

Something else I do, in tough situations, is break the house rules. I recruit peasants to get the happiness up, and send the peasants to other settlements. Not so much slavery as forced resettlement.

Using Legions as garrisons isnt that good. I suggest using Urban Cohorts or City Watch since they have 240 in each unit. Also influence will not be gained as much by fighting as by Academies and the like. You need to let your Generals rest a while in a well developed city and you will see his influence rise with the right ancilleries.

Thats all you can do some of the Iberian provinces are serious problems, they can revolt often. The key is to plan ahead BEFORE an invansion and have your support armies/garrisons, this all costs money but thats what you need to do when you invade, be prepared.

Ok, thats what I thought with the ancilleries and the City Watch Garrison. I was just wondering If there was a better way than using 19 City Watch stacks just to control a city's law and order, since the Watch are pretty useless if the city gets attacked.

Also is it better to destroy all buildings as saienga says or is it ok only to destroy the ones with neg effects? Since the order ratings seems to drop drastically (below 100%) if I change the tax to anyting but low. or destroy the positive structures already built by the other factions.

Out areas that are very high risk I say keep the buildings that give law bonuses, its only temples and other similar buildings that you get a hit. Normally there are a couple provinces you will need High end governors and use Town watch for a while. After a while it will get better, otherwise you get the revolt in 1-2 turns.

And also take care of ennemy spies. In my campaign, I pretty much have a counter-spy in each of these high-unrest bordering cities. Even if it costs some money in upkeep, I regularly find 1 or 2 ennemy spies in the city, and when thrown out, +10 to +20% in Order.

And the most important part remains micro-managing your generals/ancillaries. My Legions are usually followed by a 'Generals stack', composed of high-influence generals grown in the main Italian cities (academy and so on), and within the stack, bad ancillaries are 'stocked' with the bad governors, positive ancillaries reinforce the good generals (8 ancillaries max. per general).

Don't know if it is really a House Rules breaker, but I figure out this is the administrative personnel following the army, in charge of enforcing the Roman administration in newly conquered provinces.

What??? Spies affect order in Rome TW? great its the shinobi from Shogun all over again. Guess I'll have to try flood them out if there are any in the cities

My main trouble areas are Carthago_Novo and Valencia. Gedes is ok as I have quite a good Govenor there. I thought they were natural trouble spots as LT suggest, being quite far from the capital and all.

donno about the Generals baggage train idea, sounds expensive

Think I'll tried flooding out possible spies first I've got a few Master Assassins getting old and cranky, they could do with a work out

Have single spy in each of your town.
When campaigning, bring a legion of town watch troops with general alongside. Once you conquer the city, put your legion general in there (he will prolly have good traits from the battles), use your fresh general if he is any good on your legion. Repeat if necessary. Or just station the legion without commander outside and wait couple turns. Give enemy some breathing time.

Its what it says in readme also. Especially some that add negative bonuses. And some are indestructible.

If possible upgrade Farms, Gobernor Places, Walls, and Mines, after the upgrade it will be Romans, and helps with another minimum decrease % of culture penalty
