Default Convert to Shogun 2 graphics/engine?

As the title says. Has there been any talk among the modders of this great mod about converting SS from m2tw to the upcoming Shogun 2 engine?

I understand that this wouldnt be something that would be easy since its all japanese units and everything would have to be made from the ground up.

    But would that be possible?

I dont know alot about modding, but I think it would make more sense to upgrade to a new game then try and create new custom buildings for a game thats already a few years old and that has limited AI and coding.

Let me know what you modders think.

Considering that the trend since Empire onwards has been to make Total War games less and less moddable, I wouldn't hold my breath.

I wasnt aware of that. I havent even played empire yet. What exactly do that do that makes them less moddable? Hard code more things so they cant be changed?

They've made the files and their data much less accessible.

Thats no fun. I guess we will have to see how shogun 2 is before we plan anything then.

Well CA is going for downloadable content (you pay, you get more units), so modders are nearly thief's for them now.

Thats pretty ridiculous. If they got it right when they released the game there wouldnt be a need for mods, but they are trying to please too many people so it ends up suffering a little bit for everyone.

Then we should stop buying their games. "Loyalty" to a company is stupid.

M2 is the only one of their games I have. I was thinking about getting RTW because someone told me a lot of good things about EB, and after reading some of the stuff on the EB website I saw he was right, but now I see that there's a EB2 in the making for M2, so there won't be a need for that.

I haven't bought NTW. I barely played ETW. I won't buy Shogun 2 except maybe for 5 euros or so.
Without modding, the TW games are nothing other than a short-time diversion. Rome and Medieval 2 would be dead by now if it hadn't been for mods.

Yeah, but they aren't interested in a long-lived game. The game companies and publishers are after money and their data shows that the big bucks are made in the first 6 months on the market.
They see it this way: there simply isn't enough money coming at later stages to justify the effort invested in extending the game's life.

There is a thread at Shogun totalwar.forums pleading for a mod-friendly game. Without success, I'm afraid. We keep getting the same answers: after 6 months the number of copies sold slows down and there is no indication that a modable game brings a plus of money to justify the time which must be invested.

Without mods, Rome total war and Medieval would be unplayable.
The mods are good for the company otherwise people wouldn't keep buying medieval and rome even today.

Yeah, I would have stopped playing M2 a long time ago if it hadn't been for SS and TA. I hear that the more recent games in the series are even worse. Tons of bugs, crappy AI, etc.

Yeah, the new games are really bad.
Besides, I think that if someone wants to play a game about the 18th and 19th century that should be the Cossacks series. The games of the CA company are best optimized for ancient/medieval history and battles.

Don't buy CA's games anymore. They have demonstrated, since Rome, that they do not care at all about developing an AI that poses any sort of challenge to a sentient being. CA is making their games even less mod friendly. It is obvious they only care about making screenshot generators, not video games.

The new games aren't bad, they're just not as fun as RTW/M2TW because of the lack of modability.

There is no use to talk about just yet as the game is not even released and it takes at least a year to even consider modding a TW game as tools come real slow.

And like other modders said after M2TW, CA has not made any of it's game mod friendly and is using techniques like special units addon etc which is a blur sign that they are not planning to make future games with modifiability.

Wish the CA games were mod-friendly like the civilizations series.
For example by using Civilization 3 you can create a completely new mod without even basic knowledge of how to mod.
There are so many medieval or rome players with amazing knowledge in history who want to prepare mods and they can't do it cause they don't know what the heck is going on..

And there are no Hard Coded files in CIV IV, which means you can do pretty much anything with the engine you can imagine.
