    Default Sound Mod Ideas

So, I'm fed up with M2tw sound effects and music. I'm not saying they are bad, its just I've heard them too many times. So I propose on replacing some of the vanilla sound effects and music; thats why I've come to ask for ideas and references from DLV fans. Weather its a youtube clip or mp3 it would be much appreciated if you posted it.

    Medieval themed music only

New main menu sound effects are most wanted at the moment

Hands down, hands down. Brips' playlist be praised!

Thorolf was thus armed. Then Thorolf became so furious that he cast his shield on his back, and, grasping his halberd with both hands, bounded forward dealing cut and thrust on either side. Men sprang away from him both ways, but he slew many. Thus he cleared the way forward to earl Hring's standard, and then nothing could stop him. He slew the man who bore the earl's standard, and cut down the standard-pole. After that he lunged with his halberd at the earl's breast, driving it right through mail and body, so that it came out at the shoulders; and he lifted him up on the halberd over his head, and planted the butt-end in the ground. There on the weapon the earl breathed out his life in sight of all, both friends and foes. [...] 53, Egil's Saga
I must tell you here of some amusing tricks the Comte d'Eu played on us. I had made a sort of house for myself in which my knights and I used to eat, sitting so as to get the light from the door, which, as it happened, faced the Comte d'Eu's quarters. The count, who was a very ingenious fellow, had rigged up a miniature ballistic machine with which he could throw stones into my tent. He would watch us as we were having our meal, adjust his machine to suit the length of our table, and then let fly at us, breaking our pots and glasses.

Well, SS has already included some stuff from the original M:TW and even Stronghold, but there are some possibilities if you want to look at the Settlers or Civilization series. Not sure if their soundtracks are public use, but there might be fan-made works out there. Ditto for soundtracks from the Robin Hood film(s) (depending on your taste, anything from the most recent one, to the 2 from the early 90s, or even back to Errol Flynn in the 40s. Or from the Kingdom of Heaven soundtrack. Lots of options.

I just did a quick search on YouTube for 'medieval music' and came up with dozens of results. I don't have any particular preferences, as trust you and/or whoever makes up the selection to do something appropriate to DLV character and tone. Let me know if you need any help, but I don't have ANY experience with sound modding haha.

    TQ

i currently ask permissions to some medieval music groups for a submod for dhrr. the response is diffrent: most groups have no problem to share there music if a credit is given, but first you have to explain very well.

Thanks TaronQuinn, I will look into the MTW music.

And thanks _Tartaros_ for the tip, I am actually planning in asking some guy who made an oblivion medieval music mod that would fit DLV perfectly. I may also look into the groups you have asked permission if they are good.

    .Polish.
    .Ireland.

I already swapped out all of my music, much of my sound fx, and added a bunch of extra languages to my home mod. I grabbed interesting stuff off of youtube and converted their soundtracks. I was just beta testing an awesome new mod this past week, but it was using all of the original music and voices I had grown sick of long ago. Blarg!

its always the copyright that bites me in the ass.

i personally have a lot of music of "corvus corax" in my game as well as mtw sounds and speech but of course a really good music mod with copy righted music cant really be offered for download. dont know if the music is chopped into half lenght if the copyright still applies, though

I have used some ancient Irish music for my mod:

    http://soundcloud.com/mtw2-sv3-bi-su...-of-the-fields
(I named this track wrongly, it should be 'the parting of the friends')

I downloaded a midi file from here:

    http://pybertra.free.fr/ceol/tunes.htm

It sounded terrible, as you will hear ..
So I opened the midi file in Propellerhead's Reason 5.0 and assigned nice samplers and effects to the different parts. I deleted some sections and bum notes. I also slowed the tempo considerably and finished it off in Sony Soundforge.

No copyright issues as its a very old traditional song and has been edited/produced by myself + no extensive composition.. just a little time and sound editing.

I have also used recordings of folk street musicians, I dont think this would infinge on Copyright law.

That loud clashing clang sound made when you make many of your selections could be exchanged with a light wispy click.

Yea, easy. I did it with mine. My menu is nothing but polite tinks and clicks now.
The only sound I couldn't change was the weird spacey "rise" sound from the scripts options parchments, and at the start of each new turn. I couldn't find the sound. Really weird.

I thought you said my mounts.txt 'elephants' discovery already unclogged your own sound modding ambitions Taiji?

You saved me the effort of finding the cause of the problem preventing sounds from rebuilding. But what has this got to do with whether or not you will release the files?

Could you please allow me to check it out and perhaps include it in a new version. I would be very grateful.

I'm unsure what you mean. Do you want my sound files and associated text files? My whole sounds folder is about 1GB and growing.

I think people would like it if you did make a mod of it. Copyright issues?

Dunno. The whole she-bang? Probably. I just gleaned my favorite strat music (period pieces and hammer dolcimer etc) from clips on youtube, and raided paradox ent. games products for replacement sound effects and battle music. Then I added additional language sets from ETW and RTW mods to Beiss' already fat xenophonia. Its all pretty snazzy, but it's huge as s#!t and I never stopped to ask for any permissions as I plodded along.
