    Default CES 2011 Thread

Just a placeholder more than anything for the Consumer Electronics Show 2011.

The International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) is a major technology-related trade show held each January in the Las Vegas Convention Center, Las Vegas, Nevada. Not open to the public, the Consumer Electronics Association-sponsored show typically hosts previews of products and new product announcements. CES rose to prominence after COMDEX was canceled.
There's probably like a million and one new products being released or unveiled here, including the possibility that Microsoft will use the CES 2011 to official announce and show off Windows 8.

So, I'm going to try and keep all the major announcements in this thread. Will be updated during and after the actual show with... well stuff.

The question is, what could Windows 8 have over Windows 7 to justify purchasing it? I honestly feel like the only things I've been getting out of each new version of Windows is a new GUI and updated DirectX.

operating under the pretence that Vista never existed(better that way) Windows 7 is a massive improvement over windows xp in more then just GUI, hopefully windows 8 will be just as revolutionary

i already have a Droid X and a pretty good laptop so tablets are pretty useless for me since a tablet is a mix of both

I have a touchscreen PMP with a full internet browser and a netbook as well (I sold a laptop I bought back in July for $800 due to lack of use) But I've always wanted a 12" fully touch controlled computer with good battery life just for the novelty of it

If they make em' any thinner we won't be able to see them. My ZuneHD has an OLED screen and the color contrast is far beyond LCD panels. Now in 31 inches of epicness for the first time.

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

and the side view (look carefully and you will see a screen is there)

I'm salivating over the Asus Eee Slate right now. I've been waiting for something like this for a while.

Weight, price, and battery life are all pretty bad unfortunately. I don't see the point of a tablet if you can only use it for 3ish hours at a time.

I think the price is quiet reasonable considering what you get out of it. You'd be hard pressed to find a laptop with the same specs (minus the touch screen) for much less.

Are we talking about the same thing? $1,100 for the 64GB version. It only has intel graphics, not even Tegra 2 or some other graphics accelerator.

I've seen laptops that out spec that in ever possible way for $700.

You're forgetting its a Core i5-470M, thats an 64GB SSD and it has 4GB of DDR3. So I doubt you have seen laptops that outspec it for $700. A core i5 in a laptop will run you $700 minimum. Throw in the SSD and the 4GB of DDR3 and you are pushing $850-$900 in a laptop. And that laptop doesn't have the touchscreen. And its not a crappy touch screen either. The wacom tech in the pen, thats would a couple hundred just on its own. The price is SPOT on.

No, that i5-470UM is a 1.33Ghz. Dual core.

$630 14" screen, 4GB DDR3, 500GB HDD, Intel HD graphics, i3-370M 2.4Ghz. dual core CPU with hyperthreading. Longer battery life as well.

A 64GB SSD is worth about $105 where a 500GB laptop HDD is worth $60.

$630 meets or exceeds the tablets specs on everything but an SSD and a touchscreen. It has a DVD burner worth $30ish dollars that the tablet lacks as well.
