Default Lots and Lots of crashing

I don't know what to do, I've tried everything. Lowering graphics...resolution....everything.
I own a good gaming comp so I don't see what the problem is.
    Dell XPS 625
    Vista 64 bit
    ATI Radeon 4670HD
CTD's after a battle, or if i zoom in sometimes in the battle.

For the CTD's after a battle, you should wait a little before you go to the loading screen (wait 1 minute on the screen that show the number of men that you lost, killed, etc)
The other, you need to have unit shaders (I think that's the name, it should be something similar) on

ok i know specs differ but mine is pretty low spec and after many frustrating saturday mornings i found this helps:

    1. Make your RS exe LAA (large address aware) there is a very helpful thread in the original RS1 forum.i do this so all my RAM can be used to supplemnt processor power due to RTW not being able to use dual or quad linked cores. This the empire one but it s the same principle just follow the instructions to the letter though as it involves changing Windows sensisitve stuff.
2.When using your launcher check your vegetation detail level, as i found by accident that if you change the vegetation setting in game it has a weird conflcit that slows down battles immensely.
    3. i have units set on huge and unit detail on highest, everything else i leave on default and it seem the best combo i found for performance and quality.
    4. i also have my screen resolution set lower than usual 1280x763 or something as i find RTW cant handle 1280x1204 or whatever maybe because it wasnt around back then . the camnpaign screen handles it but it slows down battles badly, well for me anyway....
    5. i have unlimited men in the one of the decr_strat files also set to true so my battles are always in excess of 5000 or so men and besides a slight bit of lag on bridge skirmishes it runs very smoothly.
    6. and i concur with striker at the end of battles let the speaker finish his speeches on both screens i also find if i have scrolled far away from the battle (so the engine doesnt have to render the untit details) it also helps.

like i said this is what works for me and some of it might have been pure luck, but i spent alot of time getting the battls right before starting my campaign so change some settings and play around a bit.

For me the quickest test was the roman campaign as in turn one you can enage hannibal with a decently large battle to check your new settings.

anyway good luck and let us know what works, you might find a new trick for all of us

Well i have vista 64 bit and the directions for 64 bits is just to reboot the PC? doesn't make sense.

Also, what does "unlimited men" mean?

If unlimited men on the battlefield is set to false, and you're fighting a battle with reinforcements, then those reinforcements will be "Delayed" if they, added to the number of men on the field, will cause a drop in performance - i.e. there's a threshold number of men (determined by how good your computer is), which if you go over, makes the game lag a bit. So the reinforcements will be delayed until you drop below the threshold by having troops from both sides die. If you set it to true, then you're telling the computer to ignore the performance hit, and so the reinforcements usually turn up.
