Default Change Population Growth in Forts and Isenguard Assistance

    All,

How would I go about increasing population grown in forts? I can never get all of them upgraded by the end of the game.

Also, I' having trouble starting a campaign as isengard. My current strategy is to move west and take rebel settlements, and wait for a mission to give me some Guards of Orthanc or for the Invasion onEdoras to be called on Rohan.

Unfortunately, eachtime I've gone against Rohan, I've ended up have 1 stack vs 3; and they quickly take my western possessions away from me.

    Any ideas?

I had the same problem regarding population with forts (I believe it wasn't until about turn 280 that I saw my first fortress). When population growth becomes stagnant the best thing you can do is move a governor with an ancillary with a boost to population growth to that fort. With this method I was able to boost the stagnant populations in four of my forts because of Aragorn's huge population growth bonuses.

For Rohan - when you are strong enough, strike their key settlements as Helms deep. It will make Rohans army weaker. After that expand to eastern parts. At beginning use Saruman's strategy and ally with them to build up your military and economy.

I have played as Isengard and the first time I got munched by Rohan so the second time I only took the rebel settlements and avoided a war with Rohan and ignored the invasions. I then attacked the High Elves and destroyed. I needed a full command star + full authority + Fear Saruman to defeat the High Elves as it is hard to get troops all the way to High Elf territory. So my advice is not to attack Rohan until you have a very good economy and a few stacks.

I believe, not to put words in his mouth, that what he means is to upgrade the city/castle to the next stage quickly as as the population grows even though you're getting closer to upgrading the settlement, the settlement is losing space, hence the increase in squalor. If you just leave a settlement when it can upgrade the squalor will probably get worse until it tips the population growth into the negative which also brings the settlements "morale" or happiness (I've suddenly gone blank on it's in game name) down, increasing the risk of rebellion.

In short you have to upgrade as soon as you can and when you are close to being able to your settlement will have an increase in squalor which you can try to get rid of but to a certain extent you have to live with.

I upgrade my forts in the first moment that I can do it, I donīt wait any turns to do it. Even I have a lot of squalor in Forgnost and Amon Sul

I read something about if you finish a turn with negative treasure, you get squalor in all the settlements.

Excuse me about my english and thx.

    brymht,

Regarding population growth, here is what you can do:
    1. Look through your generals and find those that have traits that either reduce squalor or increase farming output. Both traits increase pop growth.
    2. At the same time, look for any ancillaries that do any of the above.
    3. Combine your best generals with your best ancillaries - these will be your "growth specialists." You can then send them to your forts and they should help increase growth.

In the unlikely case you don't have any generals/ancillaries who fit the description above, you will have to create them yourself. Look through the export descr character traits and export descr ancillaries files to find the appropriate traits/ancillaries so that you know how to trigger them for your characters.

I went into the files and reduced squalor a tiny bit so growth wouldn't stagnate so much. It's annoying waiting for things to grow.
