Domus Verecundii
A finely dressed slave accosts you as you enter the house of Titus Marius Verecundus
Titus is a member of the patrician gens Marii, a new yet extremely wealthy house at Rome. Many members of his gens have previously held the highest offices of the state, most famously Marcus Marius Verecundus. However, the branch or stirps of the family known as the Marii Verecundii have not previously held any curule magistracies. Titus' father was named Spurius and his grandfather Marcus, but nothing is known of them.
Titus Marius Vercundus' has been described as "Dives" (or rich), and he has many schemes through which he continues to amass even greater fortunes. He has recently created a school for slaves; Titus purchases unskilled bondsmen, has them trained, and then sells them for handsome profits.
In the immediate aftermath of his election, Titus is fully content to sit and watch this new game he has taken, so wholly different from that of business, which he is comfortable with. Being fairly new to politics, he is highly interested in how the events of the following year will unfold, yet would rather sit on the fence and observe the actions within the Senate, rather than dive directly straight into the action. Now is the time for alliances and "deals", for whilst Titus possesses no great oratorical skill, his extraordinarily deep pockets are sure to win him some favour and potential colleagues.
