Default Third Age Total War "Aha!" Page

Okay...many (if not all) have seen my old Third Age Total War "Agony" Thread that relates to those agonizing moments of TATW.

Now, let us discuss our glorious, cheerful, and happy moments! What has tickled your fancy in such a way, that you will always remember?

Myself - a recent Eriador/Arnor campaign -that saw innumerable amounts of combat around Edoras; of course after it was on the receiving end of a Sauron issued "Crusade".

There were so many "heroic battle symbols" around the city, that the green of the map was being blocked off. Some of them were from my armies assisting Rohan forces - most were from the AI battling. I never even realized (my fault) that the AI could cause those symbols to pop-up on the map, shows you how much I know.

Share away! I am hoping to hear of many entertaining stories of those little moments in a game, that aren't the typical "300 vs a billion".

I played with the Baron submod and activated the diplomacy additions. I was being besieged as Eriador by Isengard with a full stack, and I really wasn't ready for a war then. I had only 3 troops in that city. Suddenly Glorfindel turned up with a full stack of lots of archers and cavalry, and attacked the besiegers! I ofcourse joined the battle, and they utterly slaughtered the White Hand forces!

That was a really nice surprise, and it makes me very glad to have the High Elves as my allies. I had a period of relative peace where I got amounts of gold of 80.000, (I micromanage my generals/economy), and started giving lots of it to the High Elves. Now they are running around with lots of stacks of their top tier troops, and are protecting my young Kingdom of Arnor from the the Orcs of the Misty Mountains quite effectively.

Seeing the witch king killed by his own catapult.
Also defeating a full stack of ootm (3000 units) + balrogs with just 600 (no ap units, just some mad low tier elves).

Well i had the map advantage. I was on the top of the mountain, and the ai had only 2 paths to get to my units. So i positioned my archers so they would not get in melee very fast.
Positioned my 2 units of spearmen (silvan spearmen) in the middle of the road, with archers on the ridge. The ai sent the balrogs first so when they got to my units they were pretty beaten up. I let my spearmen there, and continued to nuke the balrogs.
I managed to kill 1, but the enemy army arrived, and i had to focus my archers on them. A little cavalary tricks and half of them were routing. The enemy general died, and the chickens decided to withdraw. Some of their units were left behind, but i decided to focus on the balrogs.
I gave up nuking them, because i had no interest in getting to 0 spearmen. I sent the archers to face them in melee, and i left the cavalary behind. The cavalary nuked them, but it was soon out of ammo. I withdrew the crucial units left some low tier and started to nuke them with the sindar archers (last resort only, they do lots of friendly kills) . Now they started to die very fast. Soon the balrogs vere dead. I had aprox 150 men remaining. Killed the rest of 400-500 remaining enemy and voila heroic victory.
I admit i had some luck (the rest of the ai troops decided not to run straight to me at the end), but still it was a very hard fight.
    Sorry for wall of text

Well I'm playing a Silvan Elves campaign. Since I kind of suck at everything 'cept the actual battles I quickly got overrun on VH/VH, after first dealing OoTMm a heavy stroke. I lost a couple of settlements, not worrying too much since I had the force to retake it.

Out of nowhere (as I should have predicted) Mordor starts "offing" my southern regions and I'm suddenly in a minor crisis.

First I thought the campaign was utterly doomed but stubborn as I am (read: lazy) I slowly fought back the black tides. Now I have destroyed Mordor save for one last region (Upper Khand) and The only evil factions left are Rhûn and Harad. Harad is in war with pretty much everybody 'cept me and the Dwarves and I'm currently planning a blietz operation.

@ zorro59 great Balrog story it reminds me of one I had lol

I besieged Moria with the High Elves and like always the balrogs spawn so I said to myself I will besieged Moria till they attack me I Had never faced balrogs in battle before so I was a little scared that I would lose my hole stack but come to find out wen I it was the last turn to besieged Moria it surrendered with the hole army inside and I took it with no fight at all and the balrogs were gone

Edit: I was playing 2.1 only no sub mods at all

Finding out that Third Age Total War existed...

    ...for Medieval Total War Kingdoms...

...and it included the Dwarven faction!!!!!!!

    Aha enough for me.

Take on me, take me on
    I'll be gone
    In a day or two!

    A-ha...get it? A-ah forget it!

When Ji-Indir charged my army at the start of the battle and was the only one in his unit to die on a stake and his entire army routed. That was good

The first time I managed to hit a Mumakil with a trebuchet shot in a city (that they are far more dangerous defending a city than in the field of battle annoys me). The shot had to arc perfectly because the elephants were hiding out behind buildings. The other Mumakils ran amok and massacred much of the garrison trying to hole up in the city square. They then conveniently wandered outside of the city.

Fighting huge battles in "wtf" battlemaps in the Misty Mountains. Looking my Arnorian troops climbing the mountains and then steamrolling their way through massed orc ranks on the top has been awesome to see.
It's only after you have lost everything, that you are free to do anything.

. the moment i discovered the brilliance of mountains in the third age campaign:
was playing a gondor campaign, and after defeating harad, while holding mordor at bay from e. osgiliath and cair andros by constatnt heroic victories defending them i sent a stack of men up to attack minas ithil. the garrison gave them a full stack including 2 troll units already there, on their next turn they attacked me with a second stack that had the witch king, 2 generals bodyguards and 2 armorured troll units. thought i was screwed. 2300 vs 6200. didnt look good.
got onto the map and noticed a cliff ledge. positioned my men up there thinking they would and waited for the inevitable slaughter, till i noticed they didnt place there men up there with me, they couldnt. i positioned my men all along the cliff to rape them with arrows, as the entrance to the cliff was behond me. they had to walk all the way around to then fight uphill. i lost 250 men, they lost 5400 and 4 generals.
the same thing also happened when besieging moria. anyone who has besieged it knows the mpa becomes a narrow tunnel with two pathways on it. easiest defending ever.

Baron samedi's mod provided this moment for me, when i lit the beacons as the hornburg was under siege and not gondor's best arrived, but half a stack of silvan elves.

    loved it

It seems like from the amount of replies from each of your threads that it's mainly bad things that happen to us on this game
