    Default How much money...

If you found yourself a job that earned a sizable income how much would you need to earn before you considered you had earned enough and could stop, or at least stop seeking more money.

What is your 'golden figure' before you walk away or do probono work or at least meant the money stopped mattering, or would it always matter to you?

For comparability convert it into $$$$$

I suspect my golden figure is $1,500000 which would include the value of my house of course. Enough to assure my families prosperity, and allow me a life of travelling and exploration and study.

It depends, if I can get rich of what I enjoy doing it wouldn't matter, since I enjoy doing it anyway. I couldn't imagine myself doing nothing with while enjoying a huge bank account. So I'll probably just keep working.
I have approximate answers and possible beliefs, and different degrees of certainty about different things, but I’m not absolutely sure of anything, and many things I don’t know anything about. But I don’t have to know an answer. I don’t feel frightened by not knowing.

    Basically this.

It would largely depend. If I had a job that would get me super-rich then I would get super-rich (Although I would certainly give some back to the world through charities and the like)

If it was a bit more moderate- then £1-3 million.

Making $5000/month is more than enough for me to lead a comfortable life in America.

I wouldnt know what to do with more money. I was raised in a thrifty family. For example, we have three cars and none of them is new.

€400,000/year would be plenty for me.

If I had a lump sum of €100,000,000 in the bank or in other assets I would be making over €5,000 a day from interest.

If you had $100, 000 000 in the bank why would you even care about the interest, I'm curious as to what anyone would want with such a ludicrous sum of money?

Possibly travel around alot, never work. Have expensive hobbies. Leave some for your family. Prehaps help some others.
    Miss me yet?

As much money as I can possibly acquire. It's not like there is a fixed ammount of wealth, I'm not harming anyone by becoming rich. Everyone can be wealthy.

There is no pejorative aspect to these questions. The recent actions of Bill Gates and Warren Buffet and their ability to persuade billionaires to give away their money show there is a limit to wealth creation and retention and its ability to satisfy you.

There was a nobel prize winning economic study into the diminishing returns delivered by wealth after a basic level.

Furthermore extreme wealth is a relatively new creation. One poster commented that Paul McCartney needs the 800m and the massive income to maintain his lifestyle, this of course isn't true otherwise he wouldn't be living extravagantly and still accruing more wealth.

Lol, I quit my part time job as soon as I had $7000 in my bank account. I'll worry about the rest when I'm older.

For the people who only want a reasonable amount in the bank, what do you think keeps people like say Paul McCartney motivated to retain his £800m fortune that is added to daily by royalties.

He has a certain level of lifestyle to maintain. And that lifestyle is not cheap.

For the lifestyle Im accustomed to, all I need is $60,000/year. I dont need more than that. I dont need a yacht, I dont need a mansion, I dont need to travel around the world, and I dont need a luxury car.

at some point it probably becomes really easy to keep making money, so he does.

Momentum of a pile of money can really get it rolling.

Never. I'd continue making money. I don't work for the money; money is just a good way of keeping score.

To be willing to walk away from everything, it would take about 20 to 25 million in the bank right now - the interest from that would be enough to maintain our current lifestyle and fund expanded leisure made possible by so much free time.
As a teenager, I was taken to various houses and flats above takeaways in the north of England, to be beaten, tortured and raped over 100 times. I was called a “white slag” and “white ****” as they beat me.

Depends on circumstances but maybe just 4 million. Though I don't like big mansion, sports cars, private islands and all that bling-bling rich nonsense. Why the need for all of those anyway? Just to impress and fit in with the glamorous? Living the high life doesn't really appeal to me.
Everything has its beginnings, but it doesn't start at one. It starts long before that- in chaos. The world is born from zero. The moment the world becomes one, is the moment the world springs to life. One becomes two, two becomes ten, ten becomes one hundred. Taking it all back to one solves nothing. So long as zero remains, one will eventually grow to one hundred again. - Big Boss

due to inflation it would be pretty darn high. Probably a bank account of several million is when I would stop caring about how much I earn a year.
