    Default Port to M2TW Kingdoms

At the risk of sounding ignorant and a jerk...

Is it possible to port the work from RSII to M2TW? The primary reason I ask is to make the game more stable. No new units really have to be made, perhaps a lil variation. For the Roman legions it would be a fairly simple task of just recycling the current skins and mixing them up to create variation. Sure some finessing would be required but with most of the leg work done all you would need is to rewrite scripts.

A lot of trouble probably, but possible

Well it is certainly possible to port the units over and i guess the map should be relatively straight forward, so theoretically alot of RS2 could be ported over, but it would probably take you a long time to do it.

They should port straight to Shogun 2.

Replace all the shogunates with the RS II factions and have them duke it out in Japan... it could be a sci-fi mod (Archimedes accidentally transported all the classical European nations to Medieval Japan?).

I like the way you think
unless you're saying this to avoid competition between RS and TATW

Well, I think I remember one of the dev's saying it wasn't likely, as in M2TW, units have the 'hunchback' effect, i.e. units are almost always hunched over.

Yeah, im sure its possible...but with RS2 the RTW engine has been completely revamped, if you want to play classical period, just throw in RTW and load up RS2 (no more vanilla for me!), if you want to move with history, throw in M2TW, Shogun 2 (eventually), or Empires.

I've not played a lot of MTW2, but I'm not having high hopes for Shogun2. If it's only half as buggy as Empire TW, it'll still be too buggy for me to enjoy completely. And I'm almost certain you'll have to use Steam to play it (Shogun2, that is ...)

I can't imagine that porting it over to MTW2 would be easy in any way, and porting it to STW2 will, I'm sure, be even more difficult, and would take years (yes, years) of work - after already spending years of work.

Who would do this, when there's nothing wrong with the mod the way it is?

Given the lack of modding tools I doubt it you will ever see a 'fully reworked' mod that uses a TW game after M2:TW.

On second thought wait for CA to release Rome 2 and then port it to that.

RS 2 to Shogun 2 Total War will take about 3 years to come into Beta Test(s). It's not even sure yet ( As far as I know ) if Shogun 2 Total War is mod-friendly.

True, sad but true, let's hope Sega (or CA, or both, if that's the case) realize that mods are what keeps RTW and M2TW alive, and without them, any TW game lifespan will be much shorter, thus less money for them

Longer lifespan does not = more money usually. Most people only buy the game once, and you dont pay them as you continue playing the game. People seem to buy the games even if they have a terrible rep a few weeks after coming out, and most of their buyers arent thinking, hmm, I shall only buy this game if it is moddable. You over estimate the average TW player.
I think, sega does not like mods because it makes the DLC look worthless in comparison (comon whoes gonna buy 5 new units when you can have a completly revamped, improved game with many more units and its for FREE). DLC is the only way they can make money out of a game thats already out.

Are the shogun battles good, I never brought the game. Was pissed off bout Empire so I didnt buy Napolean. Unfortunatly I don't think this computer will be able to run Rome 2

This is a good point, however, we must look at Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas. Bethesda spent a great deal of time putting together 5 DLC's and 7 patches to make their game optimum all the while providing modders with the same exact tools they used to create the actual game.

It all depends on the business theories the companies use. It appears SEGA is a ruthless business machine, and they can be, they are huge and what do they care if their games suck if they make profit on it.

Yeah, you got me (I did buy M2TW gold edition twice, the first one burned, long story, the second, I only bought because of TATW and SS, but you're right, only a few people do that)
About the DLC, it's not a problem of the modders if they do crap DLC, if they made decent ones at least

You are very optimistic . I would say more like 10 years if it is even possible in the first place.
