Thread: Steam, Mods and Launcher

    Icon1 Steam, Mods and Launcher

Hello, dear Eras Total Conquest fans.

I will write a few lines on how to launch a mod on steam:

I saw that a few of us were having problems playing this mod with steam. All around the web, there was many threats speaking about how to launch a mod in the steam version of M2TW...
But it seemed that the main difficulty of doing it was the fact that the launcher was a necessar path to play the game. Moreover, only the official mods could appear in the launcher list, and not the others that were put in the mods folder. So the only way we found to play it was to copy the conquest data in an official mod folder and to download another .bat file that would launch the mod from there.

But then, i noticed that there was a link to "stainless steel" in my launcher...

At that very moment, i understood that the question to ask was not How to launch a mod on Steam?
but How to put a mod in the launcher list?

And i found the answer right here:
    http://shoguntotalwar.yuku.com/reply...l#reply-187582

The solution was in the Register...
I tested it and it worked.

Here is what i wrote for the test in my RegEdit:
    Attachment 131076
And here is the result on the launcher:
    Attachment 131077
Anyway, if the team members would like me to change certain wrong values, just tell me

    Concerning Eras:
It shall execute the program like when you type 0 or when you click on "True conquest". So don't forget to execute the .bat file first if you have to load data.

If you have any question, just ask

    I forget to say something:
If you have a box telling "fatal error" after having executed the mod in the launcher (it might occur when you attempt to launch the game just after having loaded new data), just restart it from the steam shortcut, and it should be fine.

    Have fun

I'm still having issue, after I copy the files into the mod folder and then use an application to add the mod to the launcher, when I launched the mod and I tried to play a campaign it told me to select an option, which obiously means I configured something incorrectly.

I then tried to run the .bat, selected the campaign I wanted to play, the whole world one. The game didn't launch, so I tried the next option, open the.vat after the files had loaded and type 0. That didn't work either so I went to the last option and opened the trueconquest.bat, which did nothing.

    What can I do?

Could someone explain to an ignoramus like me how one goes about editing something like the Regedit? Don't really want to screw up my computer.

Bear in mind, I know nothing. What's a key?!

There is an easier way to do this without messing with regedit, simply go to your mods folder and you should have the kingdoms files there. Rename your Americas folder to anything you want and then rename your mod from stainless steel for example to americas when you start your launcher just select Americas in the list and it will load the mod. I'm running SS 6.4 in this way.

Also I noticed that in your picture for the regedit that the start file is from sega and not steam, for those who don't know about regedit you should Clarify this. Word of warning though guys if you don't know about regedit then leave alone it can really mess up your PC, I did see someone has made a MTW2 launcher edit program on the forums I'll track it down and post the link in case anyone is interested, can't do it now as I am posting fro

I have third age total war mod, and I wanted to download this mod as well, but I'm not sure if I can.
    I just want some clarity.
Can you have two different mods for the same game?

As long as Third Age doesn't add any files to the Medieval II Total War\data\ui folder there shouldn't be a problem.
